A couple observations about recycling.
I live in a house with a garbage area just across the lane, which my landlady keeps scrupulously clean. I do my bit -- use the official white bags for my general trash, a little less scrupulous about the food waste though we have a snazzy new bin. The used clothes box gets emptied regularly I notice.
Cardboard & bundled newspapers disappear promptly too. The scavengers dont show so much interest in plastic or cans though -- they often sit a long time.
What disappears really fast (sometimes within minutes) is beer bottles -- which prompts a question. How does redemption on them work here? I'm happy to let the grandmothers claim the reward -- do they just return them to the nearest cornerstore? How much do they earn per bottle? I feel a bit dumb for not knowing after all my time (& all my beer!) here.

Actually, they may eat it but they certainly don't lay around in it. They are quite clean animals as far as their own waste goes. They naturally designate a certain area of their pens for doing their business, and try to sleep as far from that area as they can. What you've seen them laying around in is good clean mud, and that is mostly for protecting themselves from the sun or bugs. Or at least these are the things I believe I learned after a summer working on the farm at Old Fort William.
So I guess you really are wrong this time.  |

| Maybe I'm over-estimating animals but would even pigs eat that stuff??? It's rotten! It's decayed. It's beyond being recognizable as food. It's mush. |

| I produce so little food waste that when I separated them, it stank up my little apartment before the bag was was half full. So I don't separate anymore. |
