|
|
How can I copy a DVD to my hardrive. I have some favorite DVD's that I want to place on my external hardrive. Is there some software I can use to copy it and make it usable on the hardrive? I understand it would play better from the hardrive than from my NOISY DVD player |

Videolan, which I think has been suggested to you, will do it. There's a feature called "copy a stream" to your hard drive. |

Just explore the cd and then copy it and paste it to your hard drive. I just did that with a DVD I borrowed from a friend and it plays fine in powerDVD |

This is the ultimate to get if you want to strip the region protection at the same time copying the .vob files to the hard disk. You can even make .ISO files of the DVD and burn them later to DVD.

Take my word for it... |

DVD Shrink does this as well, and it works wonders for me. What is it about DVD decrypter (if anything) that would make me want to switch? |

Be careful, though, if you use DVD shrink to not download the latest version. A friend wanted to back-up some of his DVDs but couldn't with the latest version. DVD Shrink 3.1, on the other hand, worked fine with the same DVD. |

Well, DVD Shrink reduces the DVD quality to fit onto a regular 4.7GB DVD. I am not saying thats bad, it's a feature that is useful although I would never use a feature like that.
I am just saying that if you want a nice 1:1 image of a DVD, DVDDecrypter is a nice easy to use free tool. I know DVD Shrink is also free and they do basically the same thing. One thing I like about DVDDecrypter is that you can make ISO images from any type of DVD, whether it be data or a movie DVD.
For some reason I still like DVDDecrypter, I guess I am biased! LOL! |

I'm with Giant on this one. I don't like the fact that DVDShrink uses compression on the MPEG-2 that constitutes the main movie. I'd much rather strip out all the extraneous junk like the commentaries, additional languages, etc, and just burn the .VOBs from the main movie to disc. |

You can do this with DVD shrink.
I haven't used it in a while, but as I recall, as you strip out more things like you mentioned (which one can with DVDShrink), the compression also reduces accordingly. It does indeed, as you say, compress the video though. |

So on the basis of this thread I'm trying out DVD decrypter since I'm getting errors using DVD Shrink on a particular disk (Jingu, region 1 version).
Using Decrypter I still get errors and am unable to continue, but at least I've been able to narrow the culprit down to the very last file:
VTS_02_0.BUP (22KB)
What is a .BUP file?
Can I remove it and still get a valid ISO image?
How can I remove this file using DVD Decrypter? I can't seem to find a way for it to allow me to do this.... |

You can select file mode, and then just deselect the files you dont want in the window if you know what I mean.
In the "Edit" option click "Select All", then hold down "Ctrl" and click the files you dont want.
Thats it. |

DVD Shrink has worked wonders for me. I don't know about DVD decrypter, but I like DVD Shrink and it has done just about anything I would need, but heck I don't care so much about pristine pictures. I was happy always with VCD format. |

You can use DVD Decrypter to burn the ISO to a DVD-R or you can use a program like Sonic's MyDVD, its not free but you can get it at any warez site.
Using DVD decrypter go into the mode tab on the toolbar. Scroll down to the bottom to ISO and there are two options, read or write, select write and you can burn the ISO onto your DVD +/- R. You have to select the ISO by opening it in the File tab. Select browse and open the ISO folder.
Hope this helps. Ask any other questions about this if you like. |
