Why does Dave's ask for my password to view certain threads, but not others?
When I link from my e-mail notification, certain threads seem to require a password to reach the link. Others don't.
Does it have to do with already being logged in, or are some controversial threads "watched/tracked" somehow?
I am wary of this because of certain e-mail hoaxes some people have tried to float in the past, where they make a dummy page and try to get you to input your password. |

That happened to me today, I logged in and was directed to a certain discussion area and thought what the H*** am I suppose to see or read? Where? What? Duh! If I'm being watched, I'll sue! |

I believe we are asked to sign in sometimes if the thread is being reviewed by the mods- sign in, if you are a mod, you get access. Anyway, that has been my experience. |

Love these conspiracy theories from the "I hate Dave's" crowd - you guys are still at this? I thought that jihad left town - but as far as I know, phpbb2 doesn't have any feature that allows moderators or administrators to decide a particular thread in a publicly readable forum should be "registered viewer" only, unless there's a hack I've never seen to make it happen. If "King of Kwangju"s around he may have something more concrete to offer. And no, I'm not him. He lives in Toronto.
My guess is it's a phpbb2/cookie issue. Check the "always remember my password" box and it *should* solve the problem. I've seen it too. Some browsers/OSs suffer from the problem more than others. I find it also happens more on threads I've posted on myself. |

I'm with the Lemon. I had a phbb board for a while and afaik there is no mod pack that can render certain threads password only. Hidden and invisible to certain browsers and password controlled forums on the board yes, but not password only for individual topics.

Well, that is the way it was explained to me. Last summer, when there was a bit of reckless posting and serious flaming going on, posts would come up either as non-existent, or as requiring a log in. One of the mods did explain to me that they were reviewing threads, and they were available at that time to mods only.
And, no, it is not "conspiracy theory" to suggest this. It's wasn't a problem for me, and I was not critical of it, if that was what was happening. Mods have a job to do. |

Sounds like you had opened the thread at the very same time they'd moved the thread over to the moderator forum for "review". Between the time the board displayed the thread in the thread index and the time you clicked it (or clicked from page 2 to 3 of a thread, same thing) they'd moved it, rendering the thread inaccessable to the public. Usually in this case it just tells the non-moderating viewer, "the requested topic does not exist" or something like that.
This is not the same thing as Derrek's "are some controversial threads watched/tracked" emission. I was labelling that a "conspiracy theory", not your post. |

Hi. How's it going?
A post from Ajuma has inspired me to make deviled eggs. Been a long time since I have made any.
And, you have inspired me to also make something I have not made in a long time, and I will have it with my deviled eggs. What is it?

Lemon, cool down.
I asked a simple question, and you're acting like it's the red scare or something. |

Deviled eggs. I'll make them tomorrow and put them on a sandwich. Thanks for the idea. |
