Hi there, anyone know where I could get a CHEAP microphone preamp so I can use my dynamic mic with my computer? It is only for spoken voice, so I don't need anything professional.

Or even better, any electronics handyperson that could make me one on the cheap?

You're sure to get that kind of thing at Yongsan, Seoul.

Problem is...you may have to walk around quite a bit before you find it. Yongsan is very, very big and confusing.

So you've been trying to record from a dynamic mic, and your computer's audio input isn't powerful enough to boost it, right?

I had this same problem, and solved it buy purchasing a Maya EX USB device at Youngsan that my mic plugs into via adapter -- 1/4 phono plug to the smaller size. Oh, before I forget, the mic input plug on the Maya is one of those with 2 possibilities (pushed in and pushed part-way in). I have to push it in and then pull it out a hair to record the Mic, which is mono. It boosts the power just right, and sounds good. I also use my Maya EX to output optical to my stereo system so I can listen to internet music. It's been a handy unit!

I looked around at small audio boards to do what I wanted, and I couldn't find anything cheaper that worked well or didn't add some really bad S/N ratio issues (hissing).

Trust me, the Maya is the way to go. I think I paid around $80 US for mine.

They have some other products too, so look through the menus of that site. They have sounds cards like this, too, if you can find 'em: http://www.audiotrak.net/prodigy192.htm
