Reading this thread you would think all eslers in korea are jaw-dropping model material. So why is it that you never actually see these adonises walking around Itaewon? Do pretty people lock themselves away in thier rooms all day?

I've often wondered this myself...Very Happy I've yet to see anyone in Korea that I would consider "gorgeous". Then I also suppose it depends on what you consider "attractive". My husband finds it quite interesting...he is always asking me ....do you think that person is good looking..? I'm not sure if this is a woman thing.....but for me to say someone is "very good looking"....the nose has to be just the right size, the eyes not too far apart not too close together....the chin can't be to pointy...the cheeks and cheekbones.....I could go on and on....but then I can pick anyone apart if they think they are "beautiful".... Wink Show me a picture...I'll tell you what is wrong with that person.......people who are vain sometimes need to come back to earth and join the rest of us..Very Happy

I don't get beautiful often, but I get "very cutie" on a daily basis. I'm guessing that has more to do with my goofball teaching style and the age of my students than my actuall looks.

Maybe you have high standards or maybe it's because I'm 38 and looking at the 23 year old white male competition, but I find it breaks down roughly 50/50:

50% fat or dorky loser who came here thinking Korean women have lower standards. Ha. Sucker. Still hasn't learned after 8 months that Edae club hotties aren't forming a line to date him because he was a dungeon master.

50% well scrubbed, in shape, chiseled features. But he's a BA holder with a big loan to pay off and Korea will pay immediate coin.

what's the big deal....your principal's not gay....but maybe you're a little scared that you are. My principal calls me a "cutie" and "handsome" all the time. It's not that big of a deal.

It's no big deal. Just never had a man call me that before, and certainly nothing like that has ever come up in an interview. Like I said, it caught me off guard. I figure it is just etiquette.

And I don't think I'm anything close to a model, for the record. I know the recruiter was trying to sell me. Sheesh.

My students have suggested that I remind them of Mr. Bean? Last week a student came up to me and looked at and said, "You look like Richard Gere!:She then qualified and said that my hair looked like Richard's hair.. ahhhhh. Koreans believe that an attractive looking person will be more well rounded, more socially adept etc. AT least this is what my students tell me. they are quite quick to admits the importance of appearance and the need for cosmetic surgery.

I would not consider myself as handsome as George Clooney, the Badwin boys or The Beaver, but I dress smartly and teach from the heart so I get by. We have had some young handsome studs and their in the looks may get you in the door but it may not keep you there. There can't be all sizzle, there needs to be some content.

Oh byt the way, can anyone suggest a good cosmetic surgeon????

I get called "Big Show" all the time Laughing whether it refers to the show I put on trying to keep their attention or whether its a reference to the wrestler...ahhh who am I kidding? Its a reference to wrestling. Probably doesnt help when I scoop up a student and throw them over my shoulder and continue on with the lesson Rolling Eyes

Waiiit a minute... I get Big Show too! But only from one class. Everyone else says John Travolta, but I am more Look Who's Talking 2, bordering on obese John Travolta than svelte, sex god Saturday Night Fever JT.

Yesterday when I went to pay my phone bill the man there said "you are a handsome boy," and then paused a moment. "No, sorry, sorry... I very handsome MAN. Not boy!"

Personally, I don't care what people say, as long as they are being friendly. He got to practice English, I got a compliment, and everyone wins!
