I have come up with an answer to the ongoing dispute between Japan and Korea over Dokdo in which everyone wins.

1. Give Dokdo to the Japanese with two provisos-- the name be kept as Dokdo, and only two structures be built.

2. The two structures will be (1) a Korean Consulate and (2) a shopping mall.

3. To preserve the environment, only foreign teachers on visa runs will be permitted to visit.

So, Japan gets the island, Korea gets the cash and the name, and us teachers get a relaxing fery ride to a consulate with only one window-- for processing E2 visas!

Any comments?

Yeah, I've got one.

Do you have any idea how many foreigners have died on those "relaxing ferry rides" in the East (of Korea) Sea? The Royal Asiatic Society does. You might give 'em a call.

But they look so nice on the news! Okay, I amend the plan to include a helicopter ride for those who get queasy at sea.

Jeez, just trying to do my part to ease international tensions! Sad

Jensen, can I just say the waves out there can be EXTREMELY rough, and you'll trust me and leave it at that? Bad things have happened to people out there, and I don't mean just seasickness. Really quite bad things. This isn't a joke. There have been deaths.

There was an RAS ferry trip to Ullungdo -- of course, a shorter journey than Dokdo -- where some .... (*deep breath... painful....pausing..... wondering whether to finish this.... damn.... okay*) where some foreign passengers ... they came undone. Yes. They came _un done_. If that's not clear -- if you don't know quite what that means, then that's probably best. I'm not going into it any further. I just can't. I personally don't like talking about it, as I just told someone who PMed me. Please, don't PM me about this again.

There may be some older RAS people still around and alive who heard about these things, and maybe they'd be willing to talk. I kind of doubt it though.

Sorry for mucking with your thread, iiicalypso. I couldn't just read what you wrote and do or say nothing. It made me feel.... disrespectful?... to remain silent. Again, my apologies.

-------------------------------------
EDIT: Razz

However, I'm totally serious about foreigners becoming undone on those ferry boats. And it was fatal. In once instance. That's no joke.

What?? Do we have to be in some sort of a club to figure out what the hell you're posting about?

Argh!

Undone... as in clothing undone and raped?

Undone... as in crapping their pants?

This is really sad. You seem to be joking. Okay, Derrek, if I tell you it was much worse than those things you've guessed -- how can we compare death with anything less? -- would you understand? Or at least understand that this isn't something we should joke about. As people lost their lives on those ferry rides.

I can only say it again. They came _un done_.
Physically.

If you want me to be more graphic than that, I refuse. I can't.
