Does the blue screen have a lot of gibberish-looking error codes on it or is it just a blue-colored screen with no writing? |

Ooooooh! That's probably a bad thing.
Do you know how to get to the Event Logs on the computer? In the system event log, there may be some Errors marked with a red X. You might look thru the Red Errors and see if one of them mentions a bad block. "Event Log" errors don't mean much, but other Red Errors might explain the problem.
You can find the event logs by right-clicking on the My Computer icon
and choosing "Manage". There's a lot of cool stuff in "Manage" btw, but "Event Viewer" is where you'll find the logs. (You'll need to be logged in as an administrator for some of the things in Manage.) |

Go to Control Panel >> System >> Advanced >> Startup/Recovery and enable "Write an event to the system log".
While you are here, you might as well enable kernel memory dumps (complete memory dumps are cumbersome and generally unnecessary).
After the crash please post the information from the system log, as redbird said.
I would bet on a memory error before a bad block/sector, simply because it's random and more common.
To the OP....you need to give way more info here dude. As much as you can. Although you may not be able to interpret the blue screen, you can read it, yes? We need to know something about what it says.
Anyways, the event log will tell the tale. Could be RAM, could be mainboard, CPU, HDD....even a driver. |

It's a laptop? Didn't know that....if so, yes, send it back. Especially if a friend has the same issues. |
