Ever read "The Aquariums of Pyongyang"?
This North Korean guy, Kang, Chol-hwan, wrote about his experience of escaping from North Korea, via China. He and his family were in a concentration camp for 10 years (Yodok) that still apparently exists. Pretty crazy stuff! Anyways, he talks a little about how weird it was for him to function in the South once he got here. Granted, he got a lot of financial support and things have changed a little (diplomatically) since then, but it's a good, easy (albeit typo-ed) read. |
