I have been doing little experiments to see how I actually influence people around me. My theory is that the "western" visitors here, men and women, have a sort of FORCE that influences the people around them more than we realize. I first came up with this idea when I was on the subway a few weeks ago. I was dressed in my brand new, (fake) polo suit I had bought in Bangkok, I was looking pretty sharp, well, this middle aged guy comes on selling this little sewing kit. One of the buttons on my suit was just about ready to fall off, and so I waited until he was done giving his speech. He was walking around showing it to people and I was the LAST person he came to. I bought one, all eyes were on him and me. They were only 1000 won, and as he left I decided I wanted another one for a co-worker friend. After I bought the second one, people began to buy them. He was SURROUNDED! He must have sold 20 of them, no joke.
Yesterday a guy came on the subway, selling little flashpens. I again was in my suit (button now secure) and as he talked I wanted to see how people would react if I shook my head, and pretended this guy was a con-man. I smiled like "no way jack", I even laughed as he was giving his speech. All eyes were on me, and him. AFter his speech not a person bought one. Now I have seen the guys sell these little flashlights before, and somebody usually buys at least one. As he left he gave me a dirty look, and I had this feeling of having the force.
This 'FORCE' follows us whereever we go! I get on a bus, there is a guy with his girlfriend next to him. As I get on the guy will hold his girl friends hand, or move closer to her, or even sometimes 'turn her head or body away so she cannot see me'. Sometimes the girlfriend has actually smiled at me and this has created a HUGE fight! One girl said "oh my gawwd" as I got on the bus, her boyfriend became so angry he walked away from her and pretended he was really hurt and upset.
What is the source of this FORCE, I do not know. Actually, I really think the Koreans admire the west. I think that they think it is the highest place that can be imagined. I think that they see us as gods, the ones with the answers, the ones who have created the great things in the world. The see us as Jedi Knights, and sure.................they must not show it.......................they must not laud and praise us because they think it will make us more "arrogant". I guess I can understand now where so many problems are coming from. If you were a WOOKIE, and all of the sudden their were Jedi Knights walking all over the place.........you would probably get pretty angry and insecure. May the force be with you. |

Well I hate to go off on a redundant tangent about the axiomatic. But in truth my mere presence inspires madness in Koreans. Like today when I was riding and decided to pause and grant my noble Knightly attention to three small children playing in the street.
I said, "Ode o Cashimnica?"
And all three immediately started laughing like I was an impossibly goofy Bozo.
Then I said "Onionhasayoh" And they resounded anon with joyful giggles. So I said bye to them and rode away muttering to myself, "Silly little punks Christ save 'em."
So I conclude you are correct- I am the Lord of this Land, and all Korea knows and shows deference to me by my demigod blood's default existence. And, I can not help it if college girls at the stony beach side insist on hugging me for their tour pictures. After all I am the...

| KIm chee and Manner -Yer all just P.O cuz ur not as smooth and noble as me and Mercury. I've done the same thing too on the bus when I passingly gaze at some uni chick and her boyfriend they get Poed cuz the girl says Cinnnn Jaaaaa Ana ahh Jew SAy oh (hug me) And more oft than that the K boyos dont get jealous but rather awed by my example of John Clayton Greystoke monster treading prowess and honey Sir Edward de Bear glutting Pooh strength. |

I have the ability to stop fistfights...and sober up drunks.
2 days back, I heard a commotion behind me while sitting in the PC bang. I turned to watch 1 korean guy whacking another guy, full force, in the face, several times...suddenly they looked up at me and met my gaze. Time stood still. They seemed to register confusion, then relaxed, packed up quickly, and departed separately.
The other night out walking (quite late), I noticed 3 ajosshis staggering along and loitering drunkenly beside a couple of trees. As soon as they looked up and noticed me, they immediately stood still, straightened up, and started walking in a very quiet and orderly manner, avoiding my stare...hmmm. |
