can anyone tell me how to extract the audio from a video file??? is there a specific program that can do this easily? |

Alternatively, just run a cable from your earphone jack to your mic jack. Record the audio. Use sound recorder or some sound editing software. Easy as pie. |

Not exactly true. It won't extract the audio. But what it will do is record whatever audio is running on your computer, so if you are watching a video and record with audacity at the same time, you will have a file of just the audio.
Yes audacity can export as mp3. |

Why are you trying to do this? In case you're having difficult inputting DIVX files into another application, and having the audio come with it, then you're not alone. Lots of people have found this to be a problem if they try to edit/shrink a DIVX file.
The way around it I learned it to open the file in Windows Moviemaker, then export it as another file. Moviemaker seems to work for some odd reason... and heck, it's free with Windows XP.
I have to do this before re-compressing to a new .mp4 file, otherwise I will lose the audio. |
