Hi
Only a few weeks left and have been making good effort to travel around Korea a bit. Been to soraksan, tongyong, goeje, yeosu. korean folk village, jeju, wonju, DMZ.
Whats the deal with Kyongju? Ive heard and read its the main historical place so it kind of feels a bit rude not to go. However some students and other people I know who went there said they didnt think it was anything special and was difficult to travel around. So what do you think? is it a must see or not? Ive been to Gyeongbokgung and other palaces, is the stuff there really special? |

I think it's a great place to visit. I'd say the three things you need to see there are Bulguksa Temple Seokguram Grotto (a BEAUTIFUL Buddha there) and Anapji Pond. The history museum is pretty cool as well. It's definitely well worth the visit and the people at the information kiosk by the train station are really helpful.

Yea, I agree, it's a nice place. I rented a car when I went there and had a good time. I agree with the previous poster about the no miss places. |

I highly rate it.
Also one of the few places in Korea you can hire a bike and ride around with relative ease, ride out to Bulguksa and around the lake, it is pretty cool. |

Most native Koreans seem to have a love/hate relationship with it. It's a site of great historical significance, yet they've been there so many times on enforced trips (Busan kids hate it the most) that they're sick of the place.
Frankly speaking, I love the place.
Buff has listed the cool places to go. They are the MUST VISIT places in KyoungJu. I personally rate Anapji as my favourite, even though it's just a big open space with some walkways and a pond. It must be my vivid imagination running wild.. :)
Anapji is a bonus in that you can hit up the other sites in the area, which are literally across the road. The Chom Seong Dae (ancient observatory of some sort), and SeokBingGo (a pretty amazing ice storage cellar) are in the vicinity, well within walking distance.
You can also check out the Cheon Ma Cheong tomb, which is located in a park closeby.
