Well, actually, he ran over her foot as he was making a circle in a tight alley, then promptly dropped the bike. Pieces of blinker-lights and a high heel flew, and the girl -- shocked for about 5 seconds -- then began yelling in pain and limping. She was walking with her boyfriend. The driver of the bike really had to work to lift that big pig bike up. He did that first, then walked over to help the girl.
He was one of those crazy Korean Harley guys who dresses to the hilt and putts around -- usually back and forth up the same street to show off his 20,000,000 won noisemaker (we have those back home too, but they have greater distances to drive).
Last summer I owned a Yamaha 600cc R6. I sold it, because I felt I couldn't enjoy it with all of the traffic and slow-moving I had to do. What's worse -- insurance companies wouldn't insure it. Not sure about Harleys, though. I can't imagine how anyone could enjoy a big fat hog in Seoul. |

You'd be surprised what a guy can enjoy in Seoul when he's drunk and it's closing time at Stompers.... |

And the foolish foreigner joins it at all...
I was in the process of joining Cyworld, until they asked that I fax or scan a copy of my foreigner ID.
Do you really trust that??
Especially with all of the phone/identity theft problems now happening with foreigners? People are using faxes or copies of IDs to get phone accounts. Especially near army bases. |

Well, it wsasn't like he was going to be able to run off... his heavy bike fell over with a crash, sending pieces of stuff flying. The girl was with her boyfriend. The alley was crowded. He sort of had no good chance at running away. Everyone was sort of in shock at what happened.
I wonder how the girl is, and how much damage was done to the bike. I have a feeling nothing of hers was broken. His harley, however, surely will cost well over a million won to fix -- minimum.
Harley motorcycles are VERY VERY heavy, and in my opinion. poorly balanced. Too many people get a wild hair and buy a harley -- having NO or virtually no previous riding experience to speak of. It's just as bad as giving a child an SUV to drive. Somebody's going to get hurt. I trained on a 250cc Honda, followed by a 400cc Honda, then 750cc. My largest bike was an 1100cc Ninja. Gosh, I miss that bike. I've had several bikes in between. My current ride is a 125cc Daelim scooter, which I love in this wild traffic. If only it were... say, 250cc and the same weight. Whoa, I'd have a blast then! I drive between cars, on sidewalks, in crosswalks -- I'm almost your stereotypical hated Korean scooter delivery man. But I get there faster on this little thing than I would on about anything else. And it's cheap to maintain and fix. |

Hmm.. Harley riders are cool. The Older the better. The young punks and those 'quick service' guys, now that's another story. |

My happiest day was seeing a motocycle delivery guy running a red and getting clipped by a car. Noodles all over the places. He lived. He sure did look in a lot of pain, having slid a nice while on dry pavement.
I'm telling ya. Korea is overlooking a huge source of inland revenue. Start enforcing traffic laws and handing out tickets. |

I saw an Ajuma talking on her cell phone run over a korean soldiers foot. He was with his GF at the time. Once she (the GF) finished yelling at the ajuma and made sure he wasn't seriously injured she started whaleing on him with her purse, then dropped the purse and started smacking him with both hands. I couldn't see how it was his fault, but he just sat there and took it.
Thought the whole affair was kind of wierd. |

That one is easy. She was angry that she might have had to file as a witness on an accident report, and her husband would then find out she was with another guy.
Korea is pretty easy to figure out, once you understand the culture.  |

A few years ago I was down in the gardening supply market along Jongno 4~5 ga when I heard this thunderous kee-rash!! I looked down the street and saw a Harley laying flat in the middle of the zebra crossing. Some old geezer selling plants and I went over and to help lift the bike, but the driver was all flustered and crimson, and he barked at us not to touch it. He didn't look very big, but he managed to hoist it about half-way up, held it there, and seemed like he was about to drop it again. So we just ignored him and helped anyway. I swear he'd still be there if we hadn't. God, that bike was heavy --  Like lifting a small car!
Derrek, you seem to be winding up in my territory a lot lately. It's getting to be ideal two-wheeling weather, and these mountains were made for it. PM me if you find yourself in God's own country of a lazy weekend. |

While in Korea, I personally witnessed 3 people getting hit by cars.
- One was a cop...who was jaywalking. He just went up on the hood of a taxi and rolled off. He got up and tried to be brave, but could barely stand
-One was an ajosshi who jumped off the bus next to a taxi stand...right when he hit the ground the taxi hit him. It wasn't "high speed" by any stretch, but I'm pretty sure he broke his leg- he couldn't stand up.
- the other was a kid at my hagwon. The car didn't hit him - he hit the car. He wasn't looking and turned to run across the street. He hit the car and put a big dent in the back door. He also broke his leg and came to class in a wheelchair for the next couple of weeks |

My friend did a summer intensive Korean language program at Yonsei. At the end of the program, it was judged a great success. One of the metrics was "wow, not one student got hit by a car this summer!" |

The more of those delivery dudes that get taken out the better... one of the ars*h&les came right up behind me and hit my back wheel as I braked to avoid a bus. I managed to stay on but that tw@t didn't after I got off and kicked him off his bike.
I did see a couple of accidents after that though. One guy was turning left the other going straight... completely wrong lanes. You can guess the rest. Another dude took a corner way to fast, in icy weather, with about 6 gas cylinders on the back.. the bike ended up on him which, in fairness didn't look nice and I wouldn't have wished that on anyone. They're as dangerous to other bikers as taxis and buses though... I try and avoid em like the plague now. |
