I have worked at my hagwon less than one month and they have already cheated me out of quite a bit of money. So I have decided I should leave right after payday with no notice, and therefore no release leter; I guess you call this a "midnight run."

The E-2 in my U.S. passport states, "Good for Multiple Journey to the Republic of Korea within Twelve months..." But the Korean Embassy in Osaka put a note in my passport that says, "Your visa is good for single entry to Korea within three months, so if you want to leave Korea on your holiday you have to apply for the re-entry permit before your leaving in Korea (otherwise your visa is cancelled automatically.)"

1) Is my visa single or multi-entry?

2) If I leave via Inchon Airport will my visa be cancelled?

3) If my visa will be cancelled at the airport, can I simply do another visa run to Japan for another school? Have the visa cancelled on my way out at the airport, get a new one a few hours later in Japan, then fly back with a new visa; will this work?

I went through the Seoul Immigration Office. I'm trying to figure out how to remain working in Korea without losing more money than I have already lost. Thanks.

Your E-2 is tied to your contract with the hagwon you're working at. If you ditch out on it you'll need to wait until the year is up before you can reenter Korea. So if you want to stay with teaching your choices are either:

A) Suck it up and do your year, unpleasant as that may be.

B) Go hunting for a job in Taiwan (possible) or Japan (unlikely, since you lack experience).

C) Go on the lam and teach privates. You'll have to give up your paid-for apartment and risk deportation and a stiff fine.

That's it in a nutshell.

You know the answer already. If a foreigner in your home country did the same thing, immigration would be looking for them. If you leave, your visa is canceled. Yes, you can get a tourist visa no problem. But if I were you, I'd type up a letter outlining your reasons for leaving and give a copy to the school, if you have the guts, and give a copy to immigration and the labor board. Keep a copy. Post the name of the school, address so someone else might not get screwed over.

HI, I am also in the process of leaving my Hagwon. I know that when you leave the school YOU HAVE get a letter of release and make sure that the school calls the immigration office. Some hagwons are very anal when it comes to leaving before the contract is over I e in your situation for being there only a month. However if they refuse to give you one, you can do your job with little interest and they could give you a letter of release since you are not performing your duties. Once they give you a letter of release and cancel your visa then it is safe for you to come back to korea with a new visa. Some managers can be assholes...they can give you a letter of release and not inform the imigration office...that way they keep your visa running till its expiry date...so my advise is before you leave the country call n check with the imigration office before you leave Korea. If you just run you can get screwed big time and may even lose the chance to work in korea in the future for good!
