F5?? if you guys are talking about residency visa status..
yeah I heard it was being in korea for 5 years straight on an F2-1 then you can apply for the residency visa.. which means forfeiting your own citizenship for a korean one.. then you become a korean citizen after passing the Korean tests... is this what you guys are all excited about doing? if you ask me.. Id rather stay on an F2-1 thank you very much.. |

No, getting permanent residency doesn't mean you have to renounce your own citizenship. It just means you are a permanent resident without being a citizen...
They explained to me that after I've been here for 5 years on a F-2, I can apply for this PR visa and that I won't need a work visa? Not sure how true? |

They explained to me that after I've been here for 5 years on a F-2, I can apply for this PR visa and that I won't need a work visa? Not sure how true? |
ummm you sure about this? becuase they immigration guy I was talking to said different.. |

If you acquired Korean citizenship, you wouldn't need an f-5 or any other type of visa. Anyway, they told me you still need permission to work even with the f5. |

seems every immigration officer doesnt quite know the rules either..
they are all programed robots.. they will have to ask someone who will then ask someone and so on..
I have heard like 10 different things on this over the years..
and everyone said thats what the guy at immigration said..

| I was under the impression that the 'permanent residency' thing you can get after five years on the F2 or F2-1 is basically just an F2 visa with no expiry date, but you'd still need to go down the working permission route unless you went all the way and took Korean citizenship (what Itaewonguy referred to above). |

I just went through the ministry of Justice's visa site again and interestingly enough all mention of F2, F2-1, and F5 visas has been purged. There is nothing there (at least in the English version) about these visas. Anyone have any other information?

Just before Fifa they changed it all. Only women could have the F2 visa. Then they changed us all to F2-1 because of the discrimination issue. Now we all get F2-1 visas and then later we can get a F5 visa (the rules and regulations are not finished yet).
They didn't delete the entries from the web page because they didn't put the information on the web page to begin with. |
