I'm nearly computer illiterate, so I'm having a big problem.

I need to send my passport page, transcripts, and diploma in attachments.

I managed to get them copied, but I can't send them because they are too big to send on Hotmail.

Is there anything I can do?

What attachment size does Hotmail allow? G-mail allows 10MB.

Resize them and/or reduce the quality. One can also convert them to other formats.

I assume right now they are .JPEG files? These can be changed to .gif files which are much smaller. 1024x768 is large enough for most documents and the quality settings can be reduced without too much change in the image. The transcripts may lose some legibility though.

Most imaging software can do this for you. I'm not sure if Windows has a built-in utility, but I know that one can use "paint" in a pinch.

Yes, my HP Scanner made JPEG files.

Do you know an internet site that will give me step-by-step instructions on how to change .jpeg to .gif?

I tried looking under "How to use a computer" but that didn't do it. I don't know the right search words for what I need to do, so I'm not finding what I want.

Thanks for any leads.

piece of cake

Using ur fav photo editor (there a freebie included w MS Office [recent versions] - just make sure u installed the MS Office Tools) - do a SAVE AS, look for the MORE at the bottom of the dialog box - click on MORE - look for a slider control on the bottom - move to the LEFT to reduce quality (and so reduce file size). Repeat the SAVE AS until its as small as you like.

Better yet, as it is the 21st century - create a homepage !

If you want an easy, lazy picture resizer then consider using Picture Tray.

You select how you want it reduced, drag the file into one tray, and then it comes out the reduced size in the other. I'm lazy, and this thing is a huge time saver for me. It's a free download.

I usually make them a bit lower in quality and then insert them into a word document. With my certifications, passport, and degree images plus my resume (with picture), and covering letter, the document is only around the 2-3 mb range in size.

What kind of images are you sending anyways? 10 mb attachments are standard with pretty much any webmail service and should be WAY more than enough for what you need.
