Is there anything more annoying than the fruit truck dude? I mean what the hell does he find to say about his damn strawberries anyway? Buy my wonderful strawberries, they are far superior to the ones in the truck next to me, even though they were grown at the exact same greenhouse, are the exact same colour, size and shape, and are also only 3,000 won?

Today it was all SUBAK, SUBAK, SUBAK until I wanted to go out there, grab one of his damn subaks off the cart, pay for it, and then smush it into his loudspeaker.

Now if any has the balls to throw a watermelon at one of the annoying people with engines they derserve a beer.

I just start to hanker for some strawberries, as they haven't had any for a while and it's way cool to eat strawberries in June.

I get the fruit guy under my window at 7:00 am. Also, some resturant owner attached loud speakers to his roof, so I get to hear the menu every morning at about 7:30.

Turn your speakers to the window that faces the truck.
Turn the volume knob to full.
Play whatever music you find appropriate.

Any complaints would be hypocritical, right?

You won't be able to change the fruit truck "sales system." So you might as well do as the Koreans do: pump up the volume.

The other day I was in my local supermarket. There was the fast-talking hawker hollering into the microphone about the end of the day produce specials. It was ear splitting, almost painful. As I walked by the large speaker, I reached up and flipped the switch from on to off. I didn't even break my stride. The store became strangely slient. No blaring sales pitch, no pop music.
And by the time I left the store, it was still quiet.
I intend to do this slight gesture everytime I'm in there, and my aim is to see what it will take to be banned from a Korean supermarket. A badge of honor . . . something to write home about.

It's a shame that "peace and quiet" is not valued in this land, and you are free to abuse any "peace and quiet" at your will.

As for egging the truck on the other thread, it's better to fill a syringe with cooking oil, or hot bacon grease. As you walk by the truck, squirt the windshield. Windshield wipers will only make it worse and the guy will have a minor pain to clean it all off.

Actually, the fruit truck guys aren't to blame. They wouldn't be there if there wasn't a market.

It's the ajummas that patronize the fruit truck sellers. If they didn't buy, the fruit trucks wouldn't exist and the neighborhood would be quiet.

These lazy, unemployed, barefoot and pregnant, good for nothing, soap-opera watching, over-make-up applying, gossip-mongering, cheap gym suit wearing, face-visor, white gloved power walking, neighbor humping, son-only breeding, kimchi serving, rice hole boxes need to get off the sofa and simply make a trip to the grocery store.

urgh! noise pollution... I've started keeping a log book of all the noise outside my 1st floor "villa" unit so that when I absolutely can't stand it anymore, I can give it to my boss and say "Please please please move me somewhere quieter."

First thing is bed time, around 12am... people at the shop across the (very narrow) road sit out on the road and drink soju and natter until about 1-1.30... right under my window! Then the whole noise of the guy shutting up shop, roller shutters... I'm awake again...

Then, sometimes there is recylcing sorting between 5-6am, also right underneath my window. Then everyday at 7am, dubu guy comes by ringing his bell, squid man is next with his loud hailer, followed by the fruit seller with his loud hailer and lastly, it's the old guy collecting cardboard comes by clanging his bell! No wonder I'm so tired.

This week, we've also added neighbours drilling and jack hammers digging up the road to the cocktail.

Full of complaints today. Full of empathy with ya Corporal.
Edit: WB rolls eyes at self. WB is tired, but not as tired as she would be had she recently given birth. My woe pales, Corporal...

Ah yes that bloody fruit and veggie truck....I used to want to club the guy!
But now, who cares I am up by the time he rolls around with his loudpeakers.
In my first appartment it was the laudry lady shouting past my window every day at 5 am.
Then it was the appartment complex announcement guy. Its just part of life here.
I don't really blame the ajumas, its their way, they get to deal directly with the farmer for whom its a way to earn a living.
It is annoying, but you just have to deal with it.

Luckily, my current apartment is, quite possibly, the quietest place in Korea.

My first year in Korea, I found earplugs to be a necessity of life. It may take a while to get used to wearing them at night, but at least you get a good night's sleep. I sometimes wear them at home during the day, too, as the spaces between apartment building units are not that big. You can buy them -- orange, foam rubber ones -- at just about any stationery store for about 3000 won.

Oh and Dr...these "ajumas" you rant on about...most are housewives who take care of their home..hence they are not "unemployed"...
