I have a job offer in Guri City.
While I definitely think the quality of the work conditions are important, a huge factor in deciding to work somewhere is living conditions. ie. the quality of the apartment, the quality of the city, how close I will be to other english speaking people.
The school has only five other foreign teachers. I want to be at a school and in an area where I have the potential to make a lot of friends. i believe that friends are a big part of what makes life enjoyable and I want the opportunity to make some good ones.
Is Guri a big city? Is there a lot to do? I like to go out to eat so are there a lot of restaurants and shopping areas (I want to be able to buy typically north american things)?
Any thoughts? |

Sounds like a good number. I don't know many hagwons with more than that. There are some, but many have less.
Guri is not big. I haven't been there.
You want to buy typically North American things? Hmmm... not sure what to say. You may find Korea does not have some things you are used to.
(assuming you are now in Ontario and have not yet been to Korea)
Can you get in contact with someone who works at the school now? |

Why leave Canada then if all you want is a North American experience? |

I didn't realise wanting to buy north american things means that all you want is a north american experience. Thanks for clearing that one up for us. You're really thoughtful. |

Where you live IS a big deal wwidgirl, that's why you shouldn't even consider living in Guri. As everyone in Korea knows, the best place to live in the Republic is Daechidong, Seoul. But don't take my word for it, have a look at these pictures and decide for yourself.
Who in their right mind would ever want to live anywhere else?
Go ahead, say it with me... WOW |

Well, to be fair, yeah, parts of Daechi look like that. But hell, that can be pretty much any spot in Korea. F she wants to buy western stuff, Daechi pretty much has all of Korea beat for access to good shopping and imported goods.
Daechi also looks like this.
Yeah, I know. Not all of that is daechi. Its all really close, within easy walking distance though. |

Is anyone else reminded of LEGO when they see Korean cities? |

This is a very helpful thread for the OP (who probably has no idea where Daechidong is, nor does she know why the two of you are showing pictures of a place that she's not asking about ). Also, D.W., you could at least format your pictures so that you don't ruin the format of the thread. Not to mention your unreasonably large avatar....grumble, grumble.
Sorry to wwidgirl -- I don't know anything about Guri. |

Remind me to take a vacation if I ever show signs of getting hot over any pic of urban sprawl, especially Korean urban sprawl of all places. |
