I leave for home in less than 2 weeks. The only thing I will miss about korea as a country is the safety, being able to go out at night and not really worry about being assaulted, robbed and whatnot. I most likely will keep reading the board....I'm interested in how this country progresses...the only time I plan on returning will be to visit the inlaws. I think how happy you are when you return home has to do with many circumstances....what lifestyle do you like? Why did you come to Korea in the first place? If you like a big city fast paced life then I can understand some people being "bored" when they go home. Myself I was always raised to believe that life is what you make it....I like a slower environment....although in all honesty my life in korea is much more relaxed than it was in Canada.. Also if you came to korea because you like to travel, then being couped up in a quiet place would be torture. Anyway, I hope to read on this board that Korea is changing in a positive way. |

I do
I haven't been on here for a long while though... I'm just curious about what is going on over there, so I know what to expect when I come back in August. |

I'm back in Korea now, but I was gone for over 2 years and kept reading the boards while I was in the states. I found it very useful for when I did decide to return.

| For those of you who went home for a while and came back, why did you come back? Feel like you missed it? Difficulty finding a job? Bored out of your mind? |

I haven't come back yet, but I want to return because
a) the ex-pat lifestyle suits me in that daily life is more interesting and challenging. I miss that.
b) the No Child Left Behind policy is putting WAY to much focus on testing here. If they aren't careful, they'll end up focusing on tests like Koreans do.
c) I want to teach high school or older either in my vacinity here at home, or go back overseas. So far, all that's on offer are elementary school jobs. I could go back to teaching high school social studies, but that does not appeal to me. |

| I admit I still check back fairly often to read about what is going on. I left Korea about a year ago now. I do miss some elements for sure, like some of the amazing people I met there. When I first got back I had a job in management, I hated it so now I am back to teaching. Most of my students here are Korean, so I do get my dose of daily Konglish, gotta love it. |

First taught,in Korea,in 1998.
From time to time I read the board. And I find it a little addictive. Soon ,I want to return to Korea and do "it" again. And I do. I taught last year in Kyonggi-do. Spent last winter in Thailand,on vacation.I was just offered my old job back,in Korea, and am seriously thinking about doing"it",again. And BTW,I'm 61 years old.But that's my body not my spirit!! |

| I think expats can understand each other in a way that others cannot. I'm approaching 8 years in ASia. There's not a chance in hell the folks back home, rarely if ever having been abroad, can understand what this experience is like. So it is easy to understand why people come back to the board from far away. |
