I've seen some posts come up about finding a baseball league in Korea and no one seems to be having any luck, so why not start our own? I'll be in Suwon in a week and would be more than happy to get a league/some games going. |

Sounds like a good idea. I'd be willing to spend some time and effort to organize it, but the biggest problem I can foresee is finding a "diamond". I don't know of any that are accessible like they are back home. The only ones I know of are stadiums where the Korean pros play/practice. Our other option is to use makeshift places, like large "dirt patches"... The campus of the university where I work has a large "stadium", but imagine a huge round 'Gladiator' stadium, where the seats are made of stone, about 10 rows all 'round, and you'll get an idea of what it looks like.
Could we use actual baseball grounds? I'm not sure...
Come on people, Hank has a good idea here, let's make something happen!!! What do you say? |

As i've stated before, i've played on two different teams here in Seoul. There are numerous leagues supposedly catering to all skill levels (the A League is a fricken joke though). Most games are played at middle/high school diamonds with the occasional game played at a stadium (played in Dondaemoon stadium last year -- pretty sweet actually).
I'm assuming that the games for this league you are looking to organize will be played on weekends which means that finding a half decent field will be impossible because games are scheduled all day by the real Seoul leagues.
I don't know too many people who would be interested in playing on a dirt field. If you wanna go that route why not just start a wiffle-ball league/drinking league? Trust me, the fields you are thinking of are chalked full of monster stones and assorted trash. It would be a waste of time to even consider it.
I do still have a connection or two, and i can look into foreigners playing on Korean teams. Sometime this week i'll speak to a guy and post my findings. |
