So today marks yet another day where I've had classes off. Since March 2nd, when school offically started, I've missed 22 classes.
In the first week of may I teach on friday due to tests.
The second week of may my students are away again for 3 days for MT.
Is is just me or is there is too much wasted time in this system. |

In high school, they don't get squat.
I get test time off, however. |

| it's a middle school thing. My classes have been cancelled at most maybe 4 days so far. My co teacher went to the dokdo thing, so I just taught solo. |

Yeah, seems to me the middle schoolers get more time off to do fun things like field trips and activities. Nothing wrong with that however. Lord knows, kids in Korea get far too little time to just goof off and be a kid.
At my high school, it's nose to the grind stone for the students, with one test or another every other week. |

At hogwan I'm amazed by how much some of the kids are absent. With the good kids, it has a really big effect on their learning. The upside to this is that it shows that they must be learning something in my class when they attend regularly.
As for the high schoolers, I often see them trudging home between 10 and 11. No wonder so many young adults seem so dysfunctional. What the hell do they study for so long - as it's obviously not English to any great extent? |

Actually only 6 classes can be attributed to fun stuff. the boys had their science day and flew airplanes around.
Most of it can be attributed to stupid random admin crap.
Eg,Taking students height and weight = 1 day off
Students getting xrayed = 2 classes off
Meet the parents = 1 afternoon off
Attending open class=1 afternoon off
Principal wants to rant at me about dokdo = 1 class off.
Other teachers get ranted at about dokdo = 1 afternoon off
Getting paperwork ready for gyeonggi do on notice = 1 morning off
Plus of course various standardized tests listening, speaking and the other subjects. |
