As someone else pointed out in another thread, this is all legal and should be easy, according to the Ministry of Education. It's on their site.

But the immigration folks won't let it happen.

You did the right thing. I refused to work for my public school illegally and was at home chillin for two weeks before they sent me to Japan to get my work visa. They were not happy one bit about that, but they cant force me to work illegally. They acted annoyed for awhile and were baffled by my reasons, but they got over it. I think they'll probably get over it in your case as well. Or they'll get off their lazy asses and make it legal for you... it's funny, they will sit and whine about how difficult it is for them to have to go through the whole process, but in the end, when they do, they seem quite pleased to move on. If you have to quit, I'm sure you'll have no problem getting another job.

Yeah...funny enough I'm getting the most heat from the foreign teachers. Why? Because they have to make up the hours that I refuse to work at the second school. Too bad for them. I told them that they didn't have to work at the second school but since they are "yes" men and do everything the boss tells them, they can't fathom saying no to the director.
Yeah, I'm definitly not going to be teacher of the year....I don't care...my students like me and that's all that matters. I could care less about getting along with my Korean/foreign co-workers.

We're all consistent. You did the right thing.

Unfortunately doing exactly what you did cost me 9 months toward severance. That's the last full-time contract I'll sign in this country. The most insane part was the other foreign teachers just biting it and doing it Twisted Evil

Then I was told "If you don't like it, quit". The next day i quit.

Thankful for the F2 and my own roof over my head.

Postscript: the manager rings me the other day to work some P/T classes Shocked "on condition of 3/4 pro-rata severance in my mitt I'd be happy to" says the always pleasant I. Suffice to say my phone didn't ring.

They're all snakes in this jungle Sad

PM, they explained it to us that they would like to only grant a second permission to work if you show dire poverty. Otherwise, they prefer the job be given to someone who doesn't already have a job.

But that would require bringing another foreigner into Korea. Is that really what they want?

polyplummer,

I got a contract from Inchon public schools which stated I would have work at a second location if it was deemed necessary, and at the principals discretion, without my permission. I knew that working two different locations, without the proper authority, is illegal. Still, I did not want kind of clause in a contract so I turned it down. I think I did the right thing.

PolyChronic Time Girl...you did the right thing.
