I don't think women or men who date/marry someone of another race have a "fetish"....however I think when someone feels they are being stereotyped...they take great offense. I have read some posts here....regarding "western women" and I can see why western women become somewhat...agitated. You see....everyone has bad experiences in the dating aspect of their life....although some people don't....the majority of us do. I married a Korean man.....should I tell everyone all the faults of western men..? Considering I haven't dated every western man in the wolrd ...I can't do that can I ? I think it is safe to say.....that when people make statements they should keep them limited to their own experiences...I can tell you about the western men i dated.....but I can't say all western men are "the same". Its something to keep in mind before passing judgements on western women that you have never met....

Well, I have nothing against western women. My mom is one, and so is my grandma (I'm sure some of these people you are refering to will try to argue that makes me biased Rolling Eyes ). I just happened to marry a Korean women because I met her here. She was the right one for me. Nothing really exceptiona about that. When you think about it, Koreans are everywhere in Korea, which greatly increases the odds of falling in love with one if you live here for any extended period of time.

Oh, and may I add, my son is a Korean man (well, toddler). He's perfect the way he is.

I thought about this thread today as I watched a grade 4 boy give another a lengthy, four-finger dong-chim. I'm not sure if male homosexuality and a lack of phobia re: anal penetration can be correlated, but it wouldn't surprise me.

I always think that it is odd when I watch some TV on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, and a game show is on, inwhich you have about 10 male talents and 1 female talent doing odd phyical things, such as rolling around and over each other to pop some ballon or such. Why have guys rolling around with each other and no hot chicks? Is the audiance 99% female so they would enjoy seeing guys rolling over each other? I just don't get it.

It is almost who ever acts the most gay, gets the chick. Most disturbing.

But ddong chimming ain't just a boy thing. Girls on girls, boys and girls. Seems people are happy to put eachothers fingers up their arses.

I don't think homosexual men are quite as fascinating to women as lesbians are to men. Go shopping with them maybe ( Queer eye for the Straight guy anyone?) , but watch them having sex- nah, not really.

Careful there! Remember, you're implying that Korean women like this kind of behavior. . . Wink

Did you know that the Hwarang (flower boys) warriors are said to have been homosexuals? And that King Sejong stripped his daughter-in-law of her title because she was in a lesbian relationship with one of her maidservants? Korea also had kings that were homosexuals.

why does this thread keep popping up?

it's on track, then off...then weird.

again, cultural differences.

in my 'language & culture' class, we read about some africans where their ideal of manliness is equal to our ideal of femininity. Confused

Don't know if it's already been mentioned:

In early 20th century England, schoolboys used to walk arm in arm, too.

I just posted that info here because I thought it might be better than starting a new thread. I really couldn't care less that Korean men walk arm in arm, it's just a cultural thing. Russian men kiss each other, but nobody interprets that as being a sign of their 'gayness', not that there's anything wrong with that. Wink

By the way, the first Korean 'gay' king was killed by his homophobic servants.

I'll go along with this.

I notice now how people in the USA, at least, are totally paranoid of being touched. I tease/push shoulders/pull pony tails on my students in joking all of the time. They laugh and think it's funny. The Korean teachers were the ones I learned it from. I could never do that in the USA. I'd be labeled a "pervert" and probably fired.

Yeah I do a few things that would get me fired back home. My students know when the ask for candy that my answer is always 'yeah I'll give you candy. A CHOCOPIE SLAM! then playfully touch the backs of their necks.

One of the professors at my university wrote a really interesting article on it here.
Quote:
I think it's all a reaction to how gays have tried so hard to make their lifestyle "normal" with the help of massive "gayness is great" media-driven agendas. People in USA society are freaking out about it, although not able to express it, for fear of Political Correctness, and going the opposite direction in an excessive way.

I don't know about that. First up the touch parionia started back in the west in the late 1800s early 1900s. Long before the social revolutions of the 1960s. I think that perhaps again this is a case of straight people with the problem. Just because I have a couple of lesbian friends doesn't make me a lesbian. I really hope that they would feel as comfortable about holding hands in public as I do if I'm with my boyfriend. But often they don't because of the stares and heckles that goes with the terrority.

I also think that western society needs to take a giant chill pill on the wholetouching thing. Somehow we've got to the point where if anyone outside of family touches us then obviously it's leading somewhere. We've got to the point of hyperviglance where outside of inner circle everyone is out to get us.

Surely a mark of a society that is truely tolerant is that people are free to hands with whoever they want. Whether its a young lesbian couple, grandma and grandpa or gasp best friends of the same sex!

Regarding the touch issue- it has surely been around much longer than the gay rights movement. I think it has to do with our general ancestry- a lot of northern European, German and English stock, and the puritanical basis of our society.

You can experience a lot of difference within the U.S., depending on where you are. In the Southeast and in some big cities, there is a lot more same sex PDA and a lot more physical affection in general. In Miami, which is largely Latin and Southern European, people kiss on the cheek and are much more physical, and the "personal space" is much less. On the other side of the country, in Seattle, the personal space requirement is much larger, and shaking hands is the norm.

Its hard to explain all of the minute differences, but you can feel the difference in some places.

Well, what I want to know is:

if the men are so relaxed about things up their asses, why are the girls so strongly against it?

Hmmm, a bit of generalizing, no? Cool
