I'd like to buy a digital camera in the next couple months. Price range $200-$300. I like Cannon products. Any recomendations?

Canon or Sony are good. Kodak is good and cheap, but more of a basic unit for simple photos. They have a cool 3x5 mode I like.

If you're willing to stretch your budget closer to 400k, then I can recommend the Canon Digital Ixus 40. For a tiny point-and-shoot camera the quality, features, and ease-of-use are pretty good.

i bought a digital camera about 3 weeks ago... i researched the cameras within my budget for almost two months... before i got to the store, i already decided that i was going to get a canon a95... but the salesman showed me some other cameras and let me try them... so i took some shots and compared them on their computer... it took me about 2 hours to finally decide to get a konica minolta g400 for 260,000 won including an extra 128mb SD card...

best thing for you to do is go to the store and ask the seller if you can try the cameras before you decide... what made me change my mind? the size wasn't important but then i realize that it's easier to carry a slim camera than a bulky one like the canon... konica's start-up time is sooooo fast while you have to press canon's power button for a few seconds before it starts... i thought the shots taken using the konica looked more natural... i specially like my camera's macro performance... it also has manual functions...

i'm a novice when it comes to photography but i plan to get a dslr later on...

if you want to compare the pictures taken by different digital cameras, you can try http://www.imaging-resource.com

what camera is like asking what car - what will you be using it for?

what kind of shots? action/static

shots of what? landscape, people, close-ups

what quality do you need? prints or just web photo albums?

do you like to crop and edit?

There are several websites that have excellent reviews. Do a Google on "review digital camera".

As has been said, it all depends on what you're planning to use it for. If you're just hoping for something small and easy to take with you everywhere, I'd go for the Canon IXY (SD-10 in N.A.). Go to Yongsan, I got mine for 270,000...and saw it at E-Mart for 499,000!!

It's a 5.0 megapixel tiny, tiny camera. No optical zoom, but you can raise the resolution and crop it out in photoshop or whatever. I've got a 35mm for "real" shots so I mainly use this for snapshots and random Korean weirdness that I come across.

Here's a decent review site for last year's 4.0 megapixel model. Camera's the same, just higher resolution. Plus you can get it in a few different colours!

I got the Casio QV-R40 at Yongsan over a year ago for 400,000. I've been extremely pleased with it. Beginner friendly but some advanced functions if you want to use them.

It's the QV-R50 now. 1 more megapixel.

Sample shots.
