My computer is fine when I am using it, but when I live it running, it just shuts itself off within 30min. When I get back I get the log in screen. Any ideas of what this could be or how I could fix it. Thanks in advance.

Are you using a virus scanner?

You've activated the system standby feature, a feature usually reserved for laptops running off of batteries.

yes, Gord, I thought so too, but I just re-checked and mine is exactly like your pic. The weird thing is that if I am using bit torrent. If it is minimized in the tray than it will shut off, but if it is left open on my desktop it doesnt. Awwww.. how far can I through this piece of crap.

Is your video card overheating?

Mine was creating a hardware error, which caused the motherboard to shut down. I had to replace a fan.

Do you have a screen saver running that does that? If I remember the old Windows NT would kick into a login screen after so much idle time.

Most likely, this is an overheating problem as your BIOS will automatically turn off the system when it reaches critical temperatures. It is common for people to have this problem around this time of year in Korea as the temperatures and humidity are both on the rise. Computers generally like to operate at around 42 degrees Celcius but, often your room temperature will have your computer running between 50-60 degrees. That is a big problem.

If you have a laptop, buy a cooler pad and if you have a desktop get some additional fans running in there or replace out the ones you have. The main culprits for overheating are CPUs, video cards, and harddrives. Last year, my brand new laptop fried its CPU and video card due to my complacence to do anything about overheating. You don't want this to happen to you so, go out and buy a 30,000 won fan to spare yourself a lot of headaches.

Is it a desktop?

For now, take the side off of the case and see if that helps. I imagine you've already done that, though.

I'd be taking the video card back, myself.

How big is your power supply?

After you take the side cover off, aim a fan on it. If that ends shutdowns then you have a cooling problem, otherwise it's probably a power supply problem.

Can you use the computer for as long as you want without it shutting down? When you return to use it after a while you get the logon screen and then it shuts down? Do you see the logon screen, and then the computer turns off?
