I want to get back in school but feel I need to stay in Korea for another year or two. I would like to get teacher certified, particularly in the U.S, as I want to teach high school back home. Anyone have any experience with distance learning programs that are legit (not diploma mills) and are regionally accredited? Do these programs actually give you the full credentials to work in the public or private school sector back home?
I'm looking at the University of Phoenix's M.A in Education in Secondary Instruction at the moment.

I think UofP is a fine program. But . . . I am fairly sure that you'll have to do a semester of practicum teaching to finish off your certification. Also, every state has different certification rules - so you might want to sort that out too. Things like the state constitution, state history, etc.

I think you can get the process jump started from here - but will probably need to do a full semester there - maybe. Although - some states (Arizona is one) have a temporary teacher certification program that allows you to teach for up to a year (check the details to be sure) while you complete your certification process.

I'm sure it varies from one program to another, but I've heard that if you teach at a public school here, it can count as work experience for some school boards at home.

Nova Southeastern University in Florida has excellent distance learning classes. You enroll in the regular program, and then you can register for on site classes or online classes. I have almsot completed my master's degree.
