Came here for two years.

Now, three have gone by and I'm still here.

I'll leave after I fulfill my goals of learning Korean, Korean culture, and saving up enough for a Master's; or after 5 years, which ever comes first.

HOMER

you are using one of my photos without contacting me, without asking me, without noticing that it's copyrighted... etc. etc. etc. and you are using it on a site you know I frequent. WHAT THE FFFFF8%@??????????????
(Cedar's head flies up into the air emitting sparks).

If you were going to do this, at the least you could throw a credit and a link onto your signature!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget, I try to make a living off these photos...

Wow! You are a great photographer, Cedar. I wondered when I saw it as his avatar who took it. Where is it?

Yep, the internet makes it all too easy to forget attribution.

First,

I did not know this was one of your pictures Cedar.

I got this picture (along with others) by email from a friend.
You have my apologies for using your picture. I have removed it and will no longer use it as my avatar.

Really, I had no idea.

It is a gorgeous picture by the way.

Uh-oh... I just snagged Homer's erstwhile avatar, fired it off to our T-shirt mill in China, and by this time next week 200,000 tourists will have those monks emblazoned across their midriff. Cedar, will you accept 500 XL Beefy-Tees in lieu of royalties? Embarassed

The Guru swears he never set foot in Korea.... and he's leaving the premises right now.

Thanks heaps, Homer. Mad

Seriously though, when I first clicked on this thread, Homer's avatar was gagaga-gigantic... like half the page. Hard to navigate... Click! again -- It's half it's original size. Click! once more -- It's pointlessly miniscule. A final Click! --- It's gone.

I can only vaguely remember it now. It was a photo of monks(?) walking down a stone path beside a wall, wasn't it? Anyone remember? Neutral

Is the original thread idea still viable?

I put my friends through a regrettably long goodbye -- one week I was hellbent to come here, the next week I'd changed my mind (after reading stories here!) & back & forth. I dont like ditherers & there I was being one.

Finally my daughter all but pushed me onto the plane saying "Its only a year dad, if you hate it you can come home sooner, but if you dont try you'll always regret what might have been."

Lesson learned. I'll take a bit of credit for raising kids with an ounce of wisdom too. Korea turned out to be the perfect challenge for me. 6 years now.

Going on year #5. Planned to be here one year. Then planned to be here one more year, etc etc.

Korea grows on some of us. I like the life here. It sure isnt't Brooklyn where I was afraid to walk down the street. (but then again, never had a robbery here, had one in Gangneung.....)

I am living a comfortable life here. I helped my son buy a business back home, and now I have to be here this year, and next year to save money for me.

I never had saved any money at home. Just worked to pay rent and monthly bills. Here things are quite differnt.

When I go home in less then 2 more years, I will have enough money to buy a car, put down a deposit on a place to live, and furnish it while looking for a job. I never could have done that at home.
