|
|
I've recently become aware of a string of attacks on forigners in my area. The attacks, including two physical assaults on women and at least two robberies, have been specificaly in the Mugo Dong (sp?) area, but I know very few people here, so there might be more.
One attack occured today in the afternoon, the others within the last three weeks. I'm not trying to start a panic, but people might want to take some extra precautions in this area (buddy system, lock doors) for awhile.
BTW, if this post gets deleted, I will declare this the worst board in the history of the world, and never return. We're talking about safety. |

Someone's been believing a little too much of the "Dave's ESL Mods all fly black helicopters" story.

The girls should be on the watch, but as a guy I find it quite safe, unlike where I come from.
There just so tinee tiny.
I do like how safe I feel while im in this part of Asia though, I think its more to do with ignorance than anything, in the news at home theres always a murder or something forcing you to be careful of your actions but here you just dont hear of anything and you presume that there nothing happening, the fact that the police dont carry guns, same as Kiwi cops, is another reason not to worry too much.
If you do get into something dodgee do what i do yell HOJU!!!! not american...lol |

What were the nature of the robberies - burgleries, muggings or good old fashioned bank robberies? |

The mods have looked around and can't find it. We're mystified as there wasn't anything objectionable about it either. (Apr 18, 2005). |

There's a certain word that starts with P, ends with y, and has some laybo in the middle that might ring true to the sentiment. |

I agree that the safety factor here is higher then back home in major cities.
However these attacks sound bad. Any follow up? Any links? Any...for lack of a better word...proof? |

Kiwi cops will be carrying guns within the next five years if the proposals put in by a officer who was sent to the US and Australia to look into the issue go through. Possibly even sooner. Then you may even see NZ security guards carrying weapons same as in Australia. |

When I moved to Australia and i saw the security guards and cops with side arms I always had to look it was so strange to me.
Its good to live in a land where the law dont need to carry firearms.
Its a shame that New Zealand will need them in the future, I guess we are growing up. |

I thought Korea was looking at their police carry guns again, after a couple cops were stabbed to death a few months back. Problem is most of the Korean beat cops are kids doing their national service but they were too small fry for the army. So they got stuck doing beat cop work. And they're none too pleased about it. I think they took away guns from Korean cops because too many were power tripping... summary street executions and the like.
I think the only place where cops don't carry guns in Canada is in Newfoundland. I believe they have a gun in their trunk. They have to call in permission to unlock the trunk and get the gun. It might have changed, of course. |

It has changed actually, as of 2002. The Mounties had always been allowed to carry guns, but the provincial police force ( Royal Newfoundland Constabulary or Really Not Cops) got weapon envy and whined enough to get permission from the government.
Oh, and I believe real cops (not the baby cops who're doing their civil service, but the guys who've actually graduated from the police academy) do carry guns here. |

So do some of the old(er) bank guard-type-dudes. Or is that a gochu-gun in those holsters? |
