Hi,
Anyone work at or know of anyone who has worked at this school? I say school but it seems like more of a campus, with kindergarten/middle/high schools combined with an English Education Centre. I think it's in Nowon-Ku, Seoul.
I spoke to the Director and she seems really, really nice! |

When in doubt avoid Christian schools, they'll make you work harder for less money and possibly try to control your personal life. |

Actually, the hours are great.
The personal life issue however concerns me. In essense how could they do this? Surely my time is my time?

Aaaaah, finally someone recognizes them
Basically, if you're the kind of person who can recognize punk lyrics you're probably not the kind of the person who'd be happy at a Christian school over here (even if you're Christian yourself). I wouldn't know exactly what they'd ask of you with regards to your personal life, but I'd expect that they'd have you take part in prayers at school and possibly require you to attend their church.
Take a look at the contract they're offering you, you'll probably find some clues in there. |

I emailed the school yesterday and was straight with them.
I explained to the director that while I live my life by Christian morals, I'm not Christian in the 'born again' sense.
They seemed to be happy that I took the time out to clarify this and said that as long as I understood the foundations of their schooling system it would be OK.
The contract I have does not state anything about teaching R.E. or anything. I would however be teaching English through other subjects such as Art - something that I'd love to do.
Any views on these 'developments?'
Would any of you still be weary of teaching for a Christian school? |

If you want to do it and feel confident and comfortable with the people you've been dealing with, do it. If you don't, don't. You have to remember or learn for the first time that this is Korea. And you have to be careful of what they say. To Koreans, Definitely mean maybe, probably means maybe, and maybe means no chance. This is the most important thing to remember. |

I work at a christian school (not the one u r talking about OP) but I love it, Im ready to re-sign my third contract in July. Great hours, great bosses, they really seem to care, I can go to them if im tired, sick , need to go home etc... and they have always been understanding.
Of course they don't want me to get drunk and wander around town... but what other employer would want that.
I give an A+ to my christian school! |

Your call of course, but what you think is "live(ing) my life by Christian morals" may not be the same as what they expect... |
