| If this seemingly pre-ordained notion that one needs to be dashing off to somewhere, if last-minute planning and keeping just beyond quasi-chaos mode, if hip-checking your peers out of your way (whether on foot or by car) so that you can arrive at your destination three seconds sooner, then Korea is indeed a dynamic society. Some day, and I don't think I'll live long enough to witness it, this country will experience its 'summer of love'.That is, once they've gotten past their long winter of indifference. |

Yah going from having nothing in 1954 to 1920 in 50 years is astounding.

I'd agree.
I think many Koreans have a skewed perception of what progress is. Hustle, bustle, 5 hours sleep a night, noise pollution is barely checked, buildings getting demolished after only 15 years standing; therefore endless construction. Chaebol get their way everytime because basically, they are the government.
I think the powers that be in korea focus too much on GDP, GNP and other stats and league tables. Actual quality of life seems to be an afterthought here. |

The Koreans I've met have always been mild mannered and friendly both in and out or Korea. As a society, they are more or less like everyone else. Of course they want to think that they are bigger and better than others! Isn't this the archetypal contest among those battling inferiority from within? Every culture does this except CANADA THAT IS ACTUALLY BIGGER AND BETTER than the rest of this toilet world.
Aren't all homogeneous cultures xenophobic therefore stupid? Yes, Koreans have lots of bugs in the system; they are as smart and as stupid as the rest of us. |

No more dynamic than anywhere else.
It's just another word the Koreans found to be marketable, yet mis-use. |

I think a better choice for official national nickname than "Dynamic Korea" would have been...
Bustling Korea.
Would any of you disagree with that one? If so, then here was my back-up:
Kimchee Korea
and I hope none of you would argue with that.
The back-up for my back-up was...
Toward US$20,000 per-capita GDP Korea.
I think the latter would have been the home-crowd favourite. |
