Cheap laptop? Very bad idea. Laptops are the ultimate expression of the "you get what you pay for" maxim. Cheap laptop = cheap keyboard, cheap touch pad, cheap components, low memory, small slow HD... You'll regret it. I think the lowest you should go is $1,800/w1800000.

Second hand, I noticed the top computer floor at Technomart has a couple used laptop places. That Seoul English classified ad magazine you sometimes see laptops for sale.

Check the sticky post above for tips on buying a laptop in Seoul.

Actually, you can get a very useful new notebook computer nowadays for less than $1000. I had an Acer shipped from the US for less than $700 which works just fine. The Celeron M has performance comparable to an equivalent speed Pentium M: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834115184

Here's an Averatec for a million won:

Thanx for the links guys. I've seen it mentioned on here that Youngsan in Seoul is a good place to pick up a laptop/PC. Is this true?? Any stores in particular you could point me towards?

Thanks again.

Yongsan is the place to go to put together a desktop system, but if you're on a budget and you want to buy a laptop locally, I doubt you'll do any better than the million won Averatec model at eMart.

BTW, if you want more memory, it's easy to add.
