Actually, PHP and MySQL are very easy to install.
I am running a blog now on my webserver that uses MySQL.

Check it out. Also, install the 4.0.24 version of MySQL, 4.1 still has problems with PHP. And I would also recommend using PHP version 4.3.11. Version 5.0.4 is still largely under development although stable enough. |

I have found that easiest way to install PHP and MySql to be with the easyphp program.
From their website: EasyPHP is a complete software package allowing to use all the power and the flexibility that offers the dynamic language PHP and the effecient use of databases under Windows. Package includes an Apache server, a MySQL database, a fully PHP execution, as well as easy development tools for your web site or your applications.

Resurrecting this thread because I'm in the market for a host. I searched the forums and the best deal I've seen mentioned here is with the following:

Has anyone seen better? |

I've never heard of them. Before deciding I would recommend checking out Web Hosting Talk and gettings some user reviews.
Previously I was with POWWEB but their service went down the crapper recently and I switched to Site5.com and am very happy with them. They got several good reviews on the web hosting forums and also several powweb refugees have moved over. |

The site5.com fact sheet doesn't say how many mySQL databases you can have. Also, exist is cheaper by .40/mo
I'll check the forum you posted to see about what others have to say, though. Thanks for the useful link. |

unlimited databases. and $0.40 is neglible. When I chose site 5 I was a little concerned about how cheap it is, because in web hosting you do get what you pay for, but since it is just a hobby for me I didn't feel like spending too much money. |

Did I mention I'm a cheapskate? I think I made that clear in another thread. $0.40/mo, or $4.8/year, is still a wide difference when it comes to hosting at that level. Especially to a pennypincher like me, and considering that this thing would be a hobby to me as well. Please don't insult my lifestyle choices.
exist also offers unlimited mySQL databases. How do you feel about site5's reliability and uptime? Good speeds? |

I'm currently trialling www.networkredux.com for a month. If you are using cpanel they will transfer everything for free. $5.95/month for 5Gb of space and unlimited everything else you could need.
The only gripe I have is that they take up to 24 hours to respond to an open ticket. I had to pull out the stops to get something resolved and it worked but I didn't like the fact that I was already having a go at them within 48 hours of moving to them.
In terms of the network, this company does have a professional reputation though.... I have a feeling that their support, while good when you get it, takes a while to get...
not sure whether to continue with them at the end of this month |

That's part of the problem with cheap hosting. Anyhow, Site 5 keeps a running track of the average turn around time on support. Currently it is less than 15 minutes. Yes they have cpanel and will transfer your site for free. Additionally they will give you credit for the remaining time on your current hosting contract. I have a $50 credit towards my next renewal.
Finally if there is any downtime, you get credit for it. All you need to do is contact billing and the credit will be added to your account.

I didn't read your other thread, and if I did, I dont' remember it. Sorry that I'm not stalking you around Dave's.
I fail to see where I insulted your lifestyle choices. I could really care less if you are homosexual or not. I"m married and not looking. |
