Someone on another forum mentioned that the US gov't is considering starting up "the draft"
I know it won't fly in this day and age
And if it did, it would last only as long as Mein Furer Bush is in power.

But.....
Just for the sake of arguing (or as people might accuse me....trolling...)

What would happen to all those Korean children born in the US for the sake of avoiding Korean military service, only to be caught up in mandatory US military service, which would bring more soldiers to places like....say....Iraq.
What If these Korean parents start getting notices for their children to go back to the US to report to the nearest MEPS to be processed for military service. How would they react? Would they start to prefer having children here to avoid them doing American Service?

If you are a foreign born Korean between the ages of 20 to 26, how would you react to this news?

Would you want to do Korean military service instead?

Remember, this is just for the sake of discussing a topic
Not to Troll

it was mentioned on the China forum
http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/job/viewtopic.php?t=24002&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

But since Korea seems to have more ties to the US then China, I would like to know what people think of it here, since:

1. A small group of families tend to give birth in the US in the hope that their son won't have to do military service and can bypass the stringent rules regarding college entrance

2. Korea has one of the largest concentrations of US forces in the region

So, if they ever did institute that draft, that might mean that a man might get 2 draft notices.

Which one takes priority over the other?

Actually- The US has called up the IRR and retirees to come back into active service. And for those of you who are not in the know- A contract for the armed service is for 8 years (active or reserve duty must be done in one of these forms and inactive for the rest). So no matter if a person does 4 or 6 year hitches, Uncle Sam can call you up for the remaining time.
Talk about paying te piper Question

I think if you go anywhere and take advantage of whatever benefits they have (in this case, going to the US to avoid the Korean draft), even if it's not the primary intention, then you have to take the good with the bad.

If the US introduced the draft.. wow.. the cultural backwash from that would last decades.

jae.

If I had to choose between getting payed 20,000 won a month as a private, locked on base 350 days of the year (unless I was a KATUSA on an american camp), 2 years active service followed by 7 years active reserve followed by 3 years inactive, but in a relatively safe area.
With getting payed as a private about $1700 a month while not deployed(double that if I am deployed to Iraq), weekends free to do what I wanted with 30 days vacation a year, getting out after a year or two with no reserve duty because I was drafted, but with a real good chance of being deployed to Iraq as an MP or truck driver.
I would have to say I would be in Canada burning my draft card. Laughing
Not realy but its not a hard decision people.
