Does anybody know how to declare a private class to the tax office? I read somewhere else on this site that you can legalise your private class if you declare it to the tax office and pay the tax - for peace of mind, I would like to do this with mine.

I (with help from a Korean friend) rang our local tax office here, but they came back with the all too usual, "sorry, I should know, but don't".

Has anyone managed to do this?
Cheers for all help,
Dan

Do you have an F2 visa? Just a warning...don't be lulled that this visa legalizes privates. I researched into it too, and although you can get a certificate from the Ministry of Education to teach privates AND you go to the tax board to declare it....immigration may still not consider that legal. It's immigration that has the final say....all the time. No one else. If immigration doesn't know about it...it's illegal, no matter what documents you have.
Sorry, I don't mean to be preachy Very Happy

I think there would be a lot of people willing to report their income to the tax office if that would make it possible for them to teach privates legally.
But right now that option doesn't exist.

Too bad.

Actually, I've never had a private before and I just don't want to chance it (one recruiter who boasted about his privates and how it's a "slim chance" to get caught.....finally got caught).
It is highly likely that immigration will not allow privates...even with tax declaration. I have an F2 visa and i still would never do privates because of the heavy fines I would pay.
All in all, immigration will make it impossible for you to get approval to teach privates.....it's just the nature of them.
You can get immigration approval to work at a second location (another hagwon) if you want to make extra cash...but you need their approval.

True. You also need the approval of your boss.
