I'm on a Tland dental vacation and i'm writing to you from a Khao San Road guesthouse internet cafe.
The last few days I have been at a well known BKK dental office getting well informed, efficient and inexpensive treatment. Its really much much better.
Korean dentists work slowly requiring multiple trips. Thais will take care of your problems by giving you as much time in the chair as you want. Want 5 hours? You got it.
The English is much better. You get a full exam and treatment plan. Korean dentists let you diagnos youtr self and then listen to you. Some paternalism is expected but patients are allowed to choose treatment paths. The Koreans just went for the big ticket items ie veneers and gold crowns. I had two serious conditions that my K dentists didn't discuss.
I can't tell if my treatment will hold long term but for now it is great to get so much done in such little time. |

| If you need fillings...go with gold. They will last a lot longer. |

Hi,
You can't get gold fillings. You can get gold crowns and that what I got except they are porcelin coated. I'm not interested in street cred. |

Sure I agree. I was there on a Dental Run last year and found the clinic to be spotlessly clean, all the workers spoke English, free check up. $15 for a filling etc. Really great. |

I also agree. My husband and I went to a dental spa in Bangkok and had excellent service. Tooth scaling, 5 fillings, foot massage while the dentist worked....all for less than 360,000.
I can't remember everything we had done, but we were very satisfied. If you pop in "dental spa, bangkok" into Google, I'm sure you can find all the details and they have a great map (easy to find, too)

this is just what i was looking for. i am leaving korea in a week and i went to the dentist. ...to my surprise i have 10 caveties. all those gained in one year. (i think i forgot about the fact that drinking bottled water hasn't given me the flouride that i am used too, and my toothpaste is flouride free) so i asked the dentist how much? ...80,000 won per tooth! bloody hell. ...well in a week i leave for south east asia and i will be in thialand in about 2 months, so i think i will go to one of these raved about dentists there. i like the fact that they let you do it all in one go. ...although i think i will do it in two days. 10 caveties in one go is far to much freezing. i would be a drooling bafoon! ...but this gives me much joy, because i am sure that the money i save from a 800,000 won korean dental experiance could be better used at a thai beach!!

| I think they made a mistake on the numbers, because I've had a root canal here for about 20,000 and I'm told the most a filling should cost is around 10,000. |

i had a wisdom tooth surgery here three months ago and was charged 30,000 won which is really cheap! but the dentist told me i that i gotta have my fillings changed and each tooth would cost 180,000 won! the clinic is Yonsei something...
it's good to have read this thread... i might consider going to thailand for my vacation and have all my dental work done there... |

Dental tours of the Philippines have been old hat for years. Now Thailand. This is good.
I recommend the entire Western world henceforth boycott Western dentists. Really. I want to see them all reduced to grubby T-shirts that say "Will Give Dental Checkup for Food!", and I want to see them carrying squeegees & squirt bottles on crowded freeway on-ramps... Especially female gyopo Western dentists. Well, one in particular.) |

DO NOT get teeth whitening done in Thailand for a "dentist" associated with the Beauty House in Pattaya Thailand.
I paid $250 US to get it done there and it hurt like heck! No kidding, tears of pain were running down the sides of my face. And then when he was finished, it hadn't improved my teeth at all!
I complained and wouldn't pay. I was so pissed off, I marched across the street to another dentist and asked them if they thought my teeth had been whitened. The dentist I had used called the police, and basically, I had to pay or go to jail! Glad I at least embarrased the bad dentist, as he followed me, at my invitation, across the street to the other dental clinic.
The place is a joke!
I spoke to another dentist in the area about this, and described the laser. He said that they were probably using a laser meant for skin blemishes -- not teeth.
Beware... go to a dental hospital if you go there. Beware of regular dental clinics! And definately beware of BeautyHouse! |
