Yeah that's a major thing. If a man cannot woo me with language, he cannot woo me. Many female western English teachers are like that. While many of us are not professional teachers, we do enjoy language for the most part, especially our own. I used to think that a man would have to have damn near perfect English to get my attention. Now I'm quite certain that he'd have to be a native speaker. Not all western women think this way, but I think that many do to a certain degree at least. Language is so important. If I share my body, I'd sure as heck better be able to share words. If not, something just seems wrong. |

I can't understand it either but I think for them it must be like that brief period of excitement when you first meet someone before you figure out what they're all about, except the mystery lasts forever. |
I think this bit deserves to be shown again. |

I'll get flamed...I can take the heat...bring it on...
we always hear...."a western male with a foreign woman...he could not meet one of his own kind or some other talk...he's ugly...no western woman would want him, etc...I suppose the same could be said for western women who hook up with korean males? She's a reject, etc...?"
I think most western women do not find any korean male attractive from what I have heard and seen over the years. But..beauty is in each owns eyes!
And if the k male is so attractive or handsome..what's he doing with a western female?
It's not racists...just pointing out something that will never be agreed upon or settled. If he/she makes you happy, no matter what their race...so be it! That's all that matters anyway! |

Dylan-
let me clarify what i wrote when you made the comment about my comment on serious relationships and being willing to move to another country. What i did not mean to imply was that western men who marry koreans would want to make Korea their forever home. But the same goes for many western women who marry koreans. Many western women don't want to live in Korea forever. Generally speaking, where do many Korean/western couples end up eventually - hubby's country right? So, following the same kind of thinking, if they go with the hubby's home country doesn't that imply that Korea would win out in a Korean man/western woman relationship??? Just food for thought.
But, sometimes it is a matter of losing status when a Korean man moves to his foreign wife's country especially if he cannot find a job in his field (this can be stressful on a relationship-heard and know of cases) because they lose their identity somewhat if they associate it with their career. Some go from white collar jobs in their own country to blue collar jobs- a step down not a step up. Thankfully my hubby has had the same kind of job (engineer) in both countries, so this has not been an issue for us. But it has been for others we know. I guess losing status could be applied to korean women as well if they move to hubby's country but i think ego is more of an issue for men generally speaking than it is for women.
I am not trying to argue, just explaining my comment more fully so i am not misunderstood.
To the OP-
if you want to find someone nice to date, get to know people first before jumping into a relationship. Hubby and I were friends a year before actually dating and yes, he was shy at first just like many of the posts from women here have said about Korean men. He was a good decent gentleman as a friend so i knew what he was like even before we started dating. |

Oh, I guess we should all check with you to determine what those prerequisites are, then. What would ST do?
Need we point out that YOUR prerequisites for a longterm relationship are not the same as anyone else's? |
Ahh yes, the rolling eyes strategy. ST thinks communication is important in a relationship???!!! Unthinkable! Unfathomable! Ridiculous! Nobody else thinks that! The guy is crazy.
For someone who usually has a pretty level head about most issues discussed on this board, you have a funny way of throwing rationale right out the window whenever k-men are brought up. Why is that?
I've laid out precisely why I can't understand this mentality based on my own experiences in talking to and dating women. If i'm so off the mark here, please educate my ignorant ass. What is this ethereal quality that some men possess which surpases communication? What is that one poignant thing that makes someone say to themself "Our relationship consists of grunting and pointing but damnit, I want to spend the rest of my life with this person!!"
You may think i'm being facetious here but i honestly want to know. If its possible to bottle this shit, put me on the mailing list...I'll buy a crate. |

Do you share your words while you're sharing your body? Care to give us a sample? |

I guess what people are saying is that the speed/ease of communication isn't as important as you think it is. After all, Stephen Hawking does OK |

Stephen Hawking is rich. He could date Lee Hyori if he felt like it. |

very easy,
after almost 4 years in Korea and having meet a sufficient sample of male ESL teacher, i can safely state that most or losers. Anyone that's 30 something constantly complains about Korea/Koreans (yet has been in korea for numerous years), and earning 2 million Won a month, is a dead beat. They can't go back/don't want to go back to their country because they know that life will be much worse. I always enjoy being in Iteawon and having some reject ESL "big man" teacher lecture me on Korea and then start in on their "big" plans to make tones $$$$$$$$$$$$. Hilarious, yeah yeah, finish you drink, go back home you've got an early class tommorow.
