|
|
With warm weather on its way, I'm wondering what the typical bill runs when you have your ac running all day, maybe all day, then going to a fan all night. I'm curious about this so I know what to expect at the end of the month when the electric bill is taken out of my check.
Thanks for the help. |

Depends on the size of your apt and how leaky the windows are of course, but for a studio apt and a new wall unit air con, I was paying 60,000W a month to cool it day and night. |

i do it sometimes and my bill rarely goes above 50,000 a month in the summer. i don't know if that's a lot or not. i just know it's icy cold when i get home from the PMS-heat of seoul. |

So if you leave it on all day and all night, and you have a small place, no leaky windows, it shouldn't go over 75,000won... that about right? |

If you set the required temperature a little higher, maybe 21 C, you can save some money. Many air-cons have been set to 18 C. Too cold for me. |

aw, cripes!
i see all the energy saving commercials you saw growing up have done nothing for all you fat cats.
nice.
do you also leave lights on all night so you don't stub your toe on the way to the bathroom?
maybe you can leave the TV and computer on so you don't have to wait those few precious seconds for it to warm up.
it's not necessary to leave the air on all day. your apartment is small enough to chill out in a matter of minutes with the aircon.
apatments in korea are not insulated, nor are the window/door frames sealed....so you'll be wasting your cash, freon, and electricity...which doesn't come from hydro power. |

Agreed.
Leaving your air-con on when you are out all day is wasteful and unnecessary. It takes 3 minutes to get your apt cool when you get home. On the hottest nights I may leave it on when I go to bed. At a medium setting. |

I don't leave it on all day, not sure about how much the bill was. Not astronomical, but I just have a little window-mounted one for my bedroom. Those huge free-standing ones will suuuuuuuck the energy like nothing. Get a small one, way less energy consumption.
By the way, I've had mine one at night since the beginning of April. We did have a few 30 deg. C days there, weren't you guys hot? |

We have a sliding glass door that can separate our bedroom from the rest of the apartment. We usually turn the AC on after I get up for a few hours in the morning and when we come home. 60,000 won was about the average for all of the electricity consumed. |

Okay, now this does not coincide with what other people are saying. And I'm not talking about leaving it on when I'm not home... just every moment I am. The first few posts were saying around 60,000, how was yours 700,000? Or, how big is your apartment and AC unit? Jesus, I would die if I had to pay some ridiculous amount, but the again, I'll die without being able to keep cool... I know, I'm gonna die no matter what. |

well my husband didn't realize how expensive it would be, he left it on 24-7, also our apartment is 48pyong so of course it would be more expensive. Also its one of those free standing huge air con units I nearly died when we got the bill, apparently the more electricity you use the more it costs per unit. This summer he can just melt! |

I recall my a/c added about an extra 35,000 won per month to my power bill. It might be more this year. In general, I think electricity prices are tightly controlled in Korea. As well Korea produces all its own electricity. Gas, which is 99.99% imported, that's a whole different story. |
