A guy just jumped from the his apartment window to his death at the apartment building I live in. Man, that really makes you feel weird to actually witness something like that and see them load him up into the body bag, etc. He only jumped from the fourth floor (which is supposed to be the bad luck floor in Korea), but he's dead. Very sad.

This seems to be becoming more and more common these days.

Yesterday afternoon a woman decided to to do the same from her balcony next to my school (I think that would have freaked the children out), and apparently there was another suicide last month from another apartment nearby.

Thats crazy sh*t.

I'd heard that suicide was a problem here, was it suicide or did he fall?

I'm guessing he'd be a jumper just because tall apartment buildings like that don't even have a ledge to walk on, and there would be no reason to be sitting on the window sil.

My 73-year-old Mom, who is visiting from the States, was downstairs walking my daughter when this all happened. I was looking out the window. She was within maybe 20 yards of the landing point, and quickly came back crying. I'm more worried about her - my daughter is too young to know anything happened - so I just want my Mom to be OK. A big "Thank you," to all who asked about our condition.

Damn, thats awful and mean. Jumping off a ledge in a country this crowded... Thats just asking to hurt someone else. Seriously, I imagine getting hit by a 150lbs jumper from a 4th or higher floor would F a guy up. awful thing to do.

And Yakey, brother, if you are feeling ANY depression or oddness, PLEASE see a professional. I believe there are some in Itaewon for foriegners (for. docs too I believe). These things have a way of coming back on ya.

I once saw the aftermath of a gunshot suicide in my neighborhood when I was a kid. The wierd thing was it just didn't seem real, but I remembered a haunting feeling that would come back later. Sometimes when you least expect it, those images pop into your head at the wierdest moments. Take care of yourself man, if you need someone to talk to there's alot of good people here who would be willing to listen.

Anyone committing suicide in public is a selfish *beep*. Okay life's shit go string yourself up in the bathroom but to psychologically damage others including children etc is plainly self indulgent.
I feel sorry for the poor barstool that has to clean up the mess.
My wife saw a jumper, he jumped from the 10th floor and he didn't die quickly, she heard him moaning, gurgling etc. Once again, selfish buggers!!!

Suicide is the most selfish act of all. My sympathies to you for having to witness this horrible thing...

Suicide's far too serious and complicated a matter to simply state whether it is or isn't a selfish act. There are far too many emotional, psychological, physiological factors that come into play to make a rational judgement on whether or not, the suicide victim was or wasn't selfish. You'll never really know what condition that person was in just before the act and what their exact motives were for committing suicide.

That said, it must be a ghastly thing to witness the act or aftermath of suicide.

Yakey, my thoughts go out to you. I hope that you and in particular, your mother, are doing ok. Make sure to let it out and not bottle up the incident in your mind, and don't be afraid to reach for others if you feel you need help.
