Making the E-2 tougher to get is a good idea if it is backed up by other measures to root out and/or prevent/eliminate illegal teaching.

Sorry - guys - i didn't want people to argue about this topic -

I did post the topic in good faith - in order to educate/inform people about the new law -

the last thing i wish for is for teachers who are finishing contracts etc - to apply for a new job - and then be hindered by problems - when they are told they have to have the transcripts in unopened - stamped (etc etc) envelopes - which could cause a hassle or just delay their job application for a few weeks - therefore - causing them to NOT GET the job they are applying for.....

NOW I realise this is a STUPID new law - and maybe it will be reversed/scratched in a few months - but just until then.....

if your contract is almost up....

and you're thinking about staying on here... at a different school (etc)

order/etc your new transcripts now... it will save you problems later - at the job interview or at immigration....

Anyway - just get your new "transcripts" ordered if your thinking of changing schools and staying on here -

and please don't argue about whether its a good or bad thing - its the new RULE - so accept it like foreigners here accept many things thrown at us each day - and just take steps to be ready.........

I keep a couple of sealed transcripts on hand, along with "official" degrees. Many jobs (unis in particular) require them. They aren't really expensive. Official transcripts come from my office in a sealed envelope with a stamped piece of tape over the flap.

Keep a file with extras of all of your documents- then you won't be caught with a problem.

I think the real question is whether they will ever check them. For all hogwan teachers, this would take new employees dedicated to this task alone. Not likely.

Godammit! Do you know how farking hard is was for me to get me transcripts and stuff the first time????

Edinburgh University doesn't supply this stuff easily and it's only a photocopy anyway. Even an 8yr old korean in a PC Bang could make a better looking document. Maybe it's only Scottish Universities, but I think this might be an issue for all Brits.

Stupid regulations - just an knee-jerk reaction by the law courts.

mcgill seals and stamps theirs and you can order as many as you want, though it is a good idea to get them sent to you parents first as they charge a lot to send them overseas.

i do think that the whole e2 visa process needs to be overhauled though.

Could you post a link that says that this is the way it is going to be? Did you read it somewhere... a newspaper maybe? Why haven't more of us heard about it?

I don't mean to be skeptical but, this is probably just your director trying to satisfy his own curiousities and the parants' demands, as a result of the SBS scandal. Too many times. I've been told about the rules at the immigration, tax, education, and other offices, by my director, only to find out that he was trying to jerk me around, again, when I contacted the appropriate office myself and got the real scoop.
