A discussion forum. Not an English grammar censorship board.
Personally, I am against grammar and spelling gestapos like mindmeetoo and buymybook.

Bad teachers only make our life more difficult. Who cares if she's a kindy teacher? Her writing is so putrid I don't really want to read and figure out what the nature of her problem is in the first place.

And just how do you know she's a "bad teacher"? Just from the way she posts? So what? In real life, I bitch, complain, and swear my ass off, all of which is left outside the classroom. What one does in their free time, on their own dime, does not necessarily hinder one's teaching ability. I have yet to meet anyone whose speaking and writing ability mirror what they teach in class.

FFS, lighten up.

TinyTibbo is an excellent teacher, because she wants her children to learn and to enjoy learning. These desire sand the willingness to find ways to make them happen are what make a great kindergarten teacher. I haven't deducted this from just one thread -- Tiny Tibbo and I have talked kindy talk in the past. She cares about her students. Do YOU care about yours?

As for the OP scolding.

Tell your director that there are only two people on the planet that are allowed to talk to you in that manner. Mom and Dad and he/she aint either one of them!

You know what? If it weren't for the Grammar Nazi's or the Ego Trips, this board would be great.

I hate it when people turn someone's problem into a personal attack because of grammar.

I say to those people (and you know who you are): SHUT THE HELL UP!!!

Let's get back to the scoldings, please. Doesn't anyone else have any good scolding stories? Please share all the juicy heart-rending details.

(To the OP, I hope you get out of that place and find a better school. They sound just awful.)

Wow. Its been interesting reading all the replies after the weekend. I do appreciate all the advice. On the other hand, the complaints about my post have been quite amusing. Laughing

Personally I know I have the capablities of typing with good grammer. However I do not base my self worth or my identity on doing so. That could explain my original post and my lack of trying to prove myself to the world ( or a small group of people) as a master of my own language. Therefore I felt comfortable using my short hand for "because", because I have been using it since I was in elementary.

I also do not base my self worth or identity on wether I achieve the status or label of a good or qualified teacher. I did not come here to boost my ego by proving to the world I can teach a language. I could personally care less about being called a teacher. Actually I prefer not to be called a teacher. My students (my babies) call me by my first name and I love it.

Speaking of loving my students. I was considering changing schools because of my bruised ego. However, when I went to work the next morning and saw how much the kids wanted to be around me, I decided to let it go. I remembered what's important to me. Giving a positive experience of a language and a human of another culture during these precious years.

Everyone on this forum has their reasons for being in Korea. I will not apologize for the fact that my primary intention is not to be recognized for my language or teaching skills.

I hope this post cleared up a few misconceptions about the mind behind the name. And before I get another post stating the fact that it is my ego that has writtin this post, trying to prove myself the Dave's ESl Cafe, i'll say it now:

Yes you are right Rolling Eyes thanks for casting the first stone. Wink

And once again, thanks for the support. We all know what's its like to be a newbie here. Shocked

Hey Tiny_Tibbo.

Even though you're no longer upset about the scoldings, I am! I understand very well why you're letting it go, because I have also bit the bullet and stayed in a less-than-wonderful hagwon situation (during my first year) because of the sweet children. That's why I'm upset about you getting scolded over such trivial things!!! They should be bending over backwards to keep a kindergarten teacher who loves his/her students!!! Whether or not you teach one particular aspect of a lesson on a given day will mean absolutely nothing to these kids in a month, never mind in ten years. But if they enjoy your class and feel cared for by you, it will make a huge difference for many of them for years to come!

Anyway, I agree with letting it go for the moment, but I hope you won't let yourself be trodden on for the duration of your contract there. If this happens again, I suggest (as others have) you do stand up for yourself enough to show that it isn't okay. I wouldn't push it too far -- give your supervisor a chance to "save face" or whatever. I usually find that standing my ground with a clenched smile can do wonders in a Korean working environment. It may be the last time she scolds you. If not, I would get tougher and less smiley each time she tries it again.

You deserve better!
