I was wondering where I can buy a nice tie? I 'm looking to buy one that would go with a grey pinstripe suit and white dresshirt. I was at home plus and the ones they had there were ugly!! Maybe some of the ladies could mention a good tie colour? i'm looking at blue..

Department stores. They have sales and you can pick up a tie for as little as 25 bucks.

What color are your eyes? If they're blue or green, few women can resist a man that can match a tie to his eyes. Conventional wisdom says you should not match a striped tie with a pin stripe suit. I've never been 100% impressed by tie styles in Seoul. It all screams "Samsung middle level manager".

I'm given to the works of Fornasetti on my ties:

http://www.ties.com/ties/search_results.jsp?Designer=Fornasetti

I own the kiss tie.

Ties.com doesn't have a great selection of Fornasetti ties, however.

Anyway, with a grey pin stripe I'd go with a very vibrant color (red, copper), maybe a floral pattern. There's a tie shop you see a lot in Seoul called St Andrew's Ties and I'm sure they might be able to fix you up with something.

I'd also advise against the white shirt. White shirts say "office". Find a nice blue or grey or even a purple.

Some of my favorite ties from my collection:

I disagree with this advice. Grey suit with white shirt is perfectly fine. Blue tie is fine as well. Possibly try one of those funky diagonal striped ones...saw some nice ones in E-Mart....just don't get those ones with the logos on them. Sorry mmtoo, those ties are just ugly. I am sure they look good on you though....just not my cup o tea.

I think those ties are ugly too, Winnie... but we are not blokes.. blokes like different things..

When my husband wears a grey stripe suit, I usually match it with either a silver tie, or a purple one, providing he is wearing a white shirt and not other colours. If he is wearing other colours, then I tend to match his tie with the colour of the shirt, or grey to match the suit. If the blue is not navy blue, but a lighter blue, then it'll go too.

those ties are crap...CRAP
I wouldn't even use them as a noose...
there is a new store in haebangchon that has some nice ties..
ties and shoes are really important shopping decisions.. cheap, ugly or just plain bad and even if you are wearing a $2000 suit you will look like crap...
dont get cheap on ties.. the import part of milieore and doosan have some really nice ties for less than the department stores.

I've never had a lady friend that didn't love my tie collection.

thats great, not something that I'd write on a resume though...
if I was to wear a tie like that the woman I now would cut them up and buy me a new collection... either that or just never talk to me again... but hey different strokes for different folks... just different circles that you and I run in I guess

I've had real good luck with the subway vendors selling those knock-off ties.

They look and feel just like the expensive Italian ones.

Sure the quality is not as good, but for 5k won a piece how can you go wrong.

It really depends on how gray your suit is, what color your hair is, and what color your complexion is. If your features contrast greatly like dark hair and white skin, your tie should contrast your suit more. If you have light hair and a fair complexion, your tie should not contrast as much. The color of your tie should really never match the color of your suit, however.

If your suit is a lighter shade of gray, you should stick to a blue colored tie, or something that is a light shade of another color.

If your suit is a darker shade of gray, you can be a little bolder (contrasting) and go for something rust, scarlet, or maroon.

The important thing to remember is that with a pin-striped suit, you don't want your tie to be incredibly busy. No floral patterns, no stripes. I would suggest a tie that is either mostly solid or has an uncomplicated pattern. Don't get something that is too shiny, unless you want to go for the Soprano look. A little shiny is fine, though. Your tie should always be silk.

The best advice for a man wanting to buy a tie is to take along a woman he trusts that has a good fashion sense. If you don't have this type of friend, then ask a woman (any woman) in the store where you buy your tie. If there is no such woman, ask the best-dressed man in the store for help.

I agree that the OP needs either a female or gay male shopping partner for this gargantuan task

No advice on the color, but I know a place for good quality, stylish ties. Go to Doota department store in Dongdaemun. On the 5th floor(I think), just off the escalator, there is a very nice tie place. Not cheap, but not outrageous either...
