Hey,
I was wondering if anyone would recommend buying a digital camera and web cam in Canada and bringing it to Korea or whether it would be better to buy them once I arrive.
Also, are roller blades available/affordable in Korea, I want to bring mine with me but they take up a lot of luggage space.

A web cam isn't very expensive on either side of the pond. It's a matter of luggage space. Electronics like digital cameras and mp3 players are not much of a deal here. |

| It'll be a lot easier if you buy it in Canada, unless you speak or at least read Korean. When you shop at a Korean store, the clerks will hound you incessantly. Saying "SORRY I DON'T SPEAK KOREAN" won't help, and you'll be standing there all flustered trying to determine the specs from a Korean signboard. Then of course the directions might all be in Korean, the program to use it on the computer will be in Korean. You get the drift. |

You might want to think about getting it serviced or repaired. Unless it's a brand they have here in Korea, that might be tough.
I may not be looking in the right place, but the only Nikon Service Center, I found is in Seoul. Unfornately, I live far enough away from Seoul, that it would have to take most of two days, to get it repaired, unless they can repair it on the spot. |

As for rollerblades, it is more a matter of how big your foot is whether or not you can get rollerblades here. I happen to wear a size 7 (USA) and had no trouble finding shoes. My friend who wears at least an 8 had a horrible time finding shoes that would fit her. Same goes with men's sizes as well. Maybe someone else can tell you what size they run up to. You MAY find them in Itawon where they carry things for tourists (larger sizes exist) but if they really are important to you, i would bring them or send them.

| If you buy a webcam here, buy the LEBECA model. Those cams sure look great -- and not expensive. |

Buy the camera in Canada. Some camera's can also be used as a web cam. I just bought a friend a 3.2 megapixel digital camera that also can be used as a web cam, for the grand total of 84 dollars. Takes very good pictures.
Yes yes, its not the best camera, but its a good one .Polaroid. Also takes short movies with sound! Comes with out a memory card, but you can take 50 pictures, and the memory card is on sale for 20 dollars, so I must pick her up a card too.
Prices came down so much here in the USA! |

Yes, you will have a lot of trouble finding size 12 shoes in Korea. Bring a years supply of shoes. You may also need slippers if your hogwon has ondol-style flooring.
Electronics are pretty much always more expensive in Korea than North America. |
