Endoftheworld, they probably realize you're a lost cause and just don't want to waste their breath.

i always found that fake meat crap to be really gnarly on my digestion.

if it's the wheat gluten stuff... i don't know how it can be considered healthier than just eating meat. what is in it that is beneficial? i'd rather just eat wallpaper paste.

Vegetarians are fine by me. It's the people (person in this case) that transform an innocent thread about where to purchase food into an airing of grievances about the chicken processing industry that get me going. Add in a dash of righteousness and you get flames, not trolls.

I don't like what's happening in Darfur, but I'm not going to say "By the way, speaking of people, check out this link:" and then link to gruesome pictures of mass graves.

People are free to eat what they want, without someone else telling them how or why it is wrong - which is why I object to anyone telling me that I should know "the truth" about animals that I eat. I do know the truth - they're animals. I'm a human being. End of story. If they weren't killed in a slaughterhouse I'd be out back near the chicken coop with a butcher knife in my hand, and it'd be a pain. But at least I'd have fresh eggs.

before you judge me too harshly, read some of my other posts. i'm a pretty decent guy. i've just got this one hangup. everyone should be allowed one character flaw. for me, it's a dislike of vegetarians. for them, it's being a vegetarian.

this is where i don't understand. why would you care about what someone who isn't you does in their spare time? you've made it clear that they don't try to convert you, so what's the problem?

"why do they bother me so much? i don't know. none of them have actively tried to get me to stop eating meat. strange as it may seem, that's part of what bothers me. if they really thought i was "murdering" someone, shouldn't they be a little more vocal about it?"

it seems the vegetarians you have encountered have respect for your boundaries and your decisions as an adult with a brain. i would think that makes them really kind and polite people, worthy of your love and affection.

i think christianity is retarded and weak, but i don't hate christians (the ones who don't proselytize in my face).

I decline meat & honestly dont give a thought to what my tablemate consumes. Its simply my comfort zone.

Interesting though how some meat-eaters are unsettled by that. Vague unexamined issues?

I didn't link to any pictures and warned everyone about the content of the site. Anyway, I agree processed food is bad but it's a hard habit for some of us to break.

Seriously, I wasn't judging you personally or claiming to speak for all vegetarians. I do want all slaughterhouses everywhere to close immediately, but I know I'm outnumbered and that it's not going to happen. The reason I don't try more actively to stop people from eating animals while they're doing it is that I don't want to waste all my energy by turning every meal into a battle. It doesn't mean I agree with animal slaughter or think it's OK.

you should have said they didn't appear to give it a second thought. in all fairness, you know not what another is thinking unless they tell you.

you don't know it but right now i'm thinking, "like, wow! this person must love proselytizing Christians!"

As I understand it, the early Christians - including Jesus and (his cousin?)John the Baptist - were essentially (Essene tradition) vegetarians and preached compassion to animals (ala Buddha). The carnivoric Question corruption set in around 324 A.D. when Christianity was made the official religion of the Roman empire by King Constantine I after his mother became a devout follower. The weird thing is that Constantine Evil or Very Mad hated vegetarians with more of a passion than he had for Christ, and he used to boil vegetarian Christians alive in oil. (He also killed a couple of his in-laws) He arranged for the first official Christian convention (Nicene?) and I think he obviously intimidated church leaders to tone down their preaching against animal killing... Hey, can't we all just get along and chant Hare Krishna! Laughing

The wheat gluten products I've had had an incredibly high protein-to-calorie ratio. They had some vitamin A and other nutrients as well.
