Only the poor dog died.

(Filed: 27/05/2005)

Insurgents in Iraq attached explosives to a dog and tried to blow up a military convoy near the northern oil centre of Kirkuk.

The canine bomb went off but the only casualty was the unfortunate animal, said police. The militants wrapped an explosive belt around the dog and detonated it as the convoy passed through Dakuk, 25 miles south of Kirkuk, said the town's police chief, Col Mohammed Barzaji.

"The dog was torn apart by the explosion which caused neither injury among the soldiers nor any damage."

Col Barzaji said the bomb had been detonated outside a Shia mosque. "Eight suspects have been detained."

This was not the first time that animals have been used in insurgent attacks. In 2003, donkey carts were used to conceal makeshift multiple rocket launchers in a flurry of attacks in Baghdad. Animal carcasses and human corpses have been used to conceal explosives.

I'd much rather it were a human suicide bomber who blew himself up with no one else hurt.

Hmmm.... this thread is oddly quiet.

No comments from the animal-loving, Al Queda-cheering left?

Feel like your morals are in conflict with your political hopes, guys?

I bet most of you read the news and think to yourselves, "Oh, how I WISH that Al Queda was just a little less horrible -- then I could feel better about hoping they ruin the US's plans of democracy in Iraq."

Why the presumption animal lovers cheer AQ?

I have never met a single AQ cheerer, whether here or in real life. Where do you run into these people?

Maybe because people think that talking to Bushies is like talking to a thick wall. Nobody cares anymore. This invasion has been going on for 2+ years now and some of us have moved on. With nobody to oppose Bush for the next few years his reign of terror will continue. The real question is what will happen in NK with some other countries willing and able to make sure the situation doesn't escalate.

I find if funny/sad that the anytime you can find any sort of article on Iraq you must come on here and say "Ooohhh, look at what I found today. What do you have to say about that?"

Maybe you would be happy if Al Qaida was around to oppose Bush?

He does.

The real problem is that all Bathists , followers of Khomeni and the followers of Bin Laden are all fascist bigots.

The reason there is terror in the middle east is that they all teach hate and fund terror.
