Ive been teaching here in Wonju now for about 7 weeks and I never see any teachers around. There are loads of soldiers who are generally obnoxious but I rarely see any foriegners. Are any of you guys from Wonju ?

i lived in wonju for about a year and half a little while back. i had a great time. i met most foreigners on nights out and about. those two main western bars were always a good place to start the night. i forget their names...i'm guessing that has changed. i know all too well about the bases out there. although i did meet some good soldiers who made for some entertaining nights.

when i was there i think i met people from five different schools. i'm sure the schools are still there but i have a feeling most people who replaced the clan were a little older and a little more settled...therefore you may not see them in the bars. but i'm sure people are out there. you just have to find them. if you walk during a weekday and you see a foreigner then he's probably a teacher. just go say hi.

plus. wonju was a great place to meet koreans. i always found people open to talk and hang out there. at least a hell of a more than in seoul, where i presently reside.

i recommend finding the korean traditional cafe "we can't find our house" (written in korean) right by the hospital. the owner, choi, is a great guy. and his cafe/restaurant/bar is nice.

anyways, i know it's probably all stuff you probably know. and i'm not much help being so far away but...hey i thought i'd give you at least one reply.. Laughing

It's just a thought, but why don't you find out where the other hagwons are in the city, drop by, maybe leave your name, number, or see if any of the teachers there can help you out?
Yonsei University also has a campus there, so there must be quite a few teachers in and around Wonju.
I'm sure you'll find someone, somewhere?
Just a thought...........
