And do you really think if Columbus hadn't "discovered" America, that Europe would still be ignorant of its existence in 2005? Get real. It was inevitable. Coumbus just happened to be the right guy in the right time and place. He was lucky--in more ways than one.
You realize, of course, that he thought he'd be sailing from straight to India, and that he consciously tweaked his calculations of the size of the Earth to make it way smaller than it really is? Man...he would have died in the middle of the ocean if he hadn't stumbled across America. He was lucky, and quite possibly insane. Are you sure you want to champion this guy as the pride of Italy?
Lastly, he was Genoan. I don't think "Italy" existed as a nation back in the 1400s. I could be wrong. But I suspect he considered himself Genoan and not Italian.
For that matter, the (has-been) Romans didn't consider themselves "Italian" either.
Finally: Ms. Universe considers herself Canadian. She might also consider herslef Russian. But she ran as Ms. Canada and chose to represent Canada. She is a Canadian citizen. She is Canadian, and there is no Canadian race.
What don't you understand about her being Canadian? |

Art....just what art has Italy produced in the last 500 years of any consequence?
Food? Puhlease.
Wine? While Italy does put out some good wine I would much rather go with Germany, California, or France as world leaders in the wine industry.
Music What music? Oh right all the international singing sensations that are Italian. Hmmm my memory fails me...I cant think of one.
Design? Well about 2000 years ago the Romans came up with the Colliseum and a few others but really Italy has nothing better than any other country.
Fashion. Okay Milan is a fashion hub...but no greater than Paris.
Automobiles? Ferrari. Other than that nada. One car does not make a leader in the automotive industry. |

i've long thought of that too.
thats the true beauty of mulattos.. they can't be militant black or white. they have both parents.. and can't be militant about either one without being against half of themselves. |
oh, they are.
let's not use 'mulatto' tho cuz it's like using 'colored', 'oriental', etc.
black/white mixes born before the 80s are probably hard-core black power, white hating people.
and if they aren't then they are literally mixed up. |

Awww... Grotto.. you are too harsh. Although I disagree with ITWG.. I love Italy.
I love Italian food :p Pasta, spaghetti, pizza and the like..
Music... gosh.. Vivaldi is Italian. Ok so he is mostly boring but I love his Gloria! Then you have Verdi and Puccini.. Kings of Opera!
As for performers.. well, you have Pavarotti and Andreas Bocelli (ok, so he is not my favourite... but people like him!). There is also the wonderful mezzo Cecilia Bartoli... what a wonderful voice.
There are wonderful things in Italy, just like other countries...  And I love visiting Italy!! |
