I don't think that's so unlikely. In fact, if I close my eyes, I can almost see the...

<cue dream-sequence music>

<the cameras of the White House press corps flicker-flash as Press Secretary Scott McClellan walks to the podium>

McClellan: Ladies and Gentlemen of the press, I am pleased to annouce that the President's nominee for Supreme Court Justice is Endofthewor1d. As I'm sure you're all aware, Judge Endofthewor1d has a long and distinguished record on the bench, and once sat on a bench in Fukuoka for several days awaiting processing of his E-2 visa. The President feels that Judge Endofthewor1d's rich experience (with pants-pissing, crayon-chewing future Korean stem-cell researchers), his vast knowledge (of the location and approximate length of the Mississippi River) and, of course, his values (he loves Walmart) will be of immeasureable service to the Court and to our country.

BUZZZZZZZ!

<alarm clock goes off; it's Monday morning in Korea>

Actually the President has surprisingly little control over the US economy.

I very deliberately chose to use the word 'impact' because I meant impact. I said nothing about control.

I chose impact because the president submits the budget to Congress each year in which he requests tax raises and tax cuts and other legislation that have serious influence on the economy. Congress then does what it wants to do with the requests.
