US Running 'Archipelago' of Secret Prisons: Amnesty International
Sun Jun 5, 7:13 PM ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) - The US government is operating an "archipelago" of prisons around the world, many of them secret camps into which people are being "literally disappeared," a top Amnesty International official said.
Amnesty International executive director William Schulz criticized the administration of US President George W. Bush for holding alleged battlefield combatants in "indefinite incommunicado detention" without access to lawyers in an interview with Fox News Sunday.

"AmeriKa" , funny by a poster who supports the pro Klan American Free Press.
No credibility.
The American Free Press are Klansman - for real. So are Al Qaida. |

This is one of the most disturbing developments to come to light recently. I wonder if any other countries are also taking advantage of the existence of these prisons and shipping off their undesirables to be tortured or disappeared. |

what's the deal with spelling 'america' with a 'K'? clearly it's supposed to be clever and witty, as it is a capital K just so none of us miss it. maybe i'm dense, but i just don't get what it's supposed to infer. |

Oh, come on! The sword in the hand of the Statue of Liberty... doesn't that ring any bells? No? Could this mean you aren't as well-read as you pretend to be, Joo?

Speaking as a leftist, I have to say that in my experience the more likely a writer is to spell "America" that way, the less likely I am to find his ideas worth considering.
Not sure if this is a causal or a correlative relationship. |

Causal ??? Correlative ??? Hwah-zha ???
It anyone gets all worked up over the creative spelling freely employed here, methinks this constitutes something of a problem alright: STYLE over substance.
"AmeriKa" = poetick license

im sentimental, if you know what i mean:
i love the country but i cant stand the scene.
And im neither left or right im just staying home tonight,
getting lost in that hopeless little screen.
But Im stubborn as those garbage bags that Time cannot decay,
Im junk but Im still holding up this little wild bouquet:
DemoKracy is coming to the U.S.A. |

Obviously I hope your ignorance disappears with this thread

K" replacing "C"
It was common among 1960s and early 1970s U.S. leftists to write Amerika rather than "America" in referring to the United States. [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] It is likely that this was originally an allusion to the German spelling of America, and intended to be suggestive of Nazism, a hypothesis that the Oxford English Dictionary supports. It may additionally have been an allusion to the title of Franz Kafka's 1927 novel Amerika.
In the 1987 TV miniseries Amerika, it denoted a Soviet-conquered America.
A similar usage in Spanish is to write okupa rather than "ocupa" (meaning a building or area occupied by squatters [6], which is particularly remarkable because the letter "k" is not found in native Spanish words. This is particularly associated with Spanish anarchist movements. |

That's it? That's you comeback? You might want to replace it with an original thought when one comes to you. Take your time. I'm patient. |

Isn't this the same sort of thing that has been going on in Japan, R.O.K., D.P.R.K., Taiwan, Thailand, and the P.R.C. throughout their histories?
Has anybody read the latest U.N. Human Rights report on the R.O.K. or Japan? |
