How dare you insult thousands of years of fish, red pepper, "fermented" vegetables, and rice??? |

There's a not lot of Korean food I like. Rice just seems like a waste unless I sign up for that triathalon and kimchee, well...we have compost at home too...we just don't add dead fish and dried red pepper to it and eat it. Variety seems like a less-than-desirable culinary concern here in the land of rice-and-kimchee-three-times-a-day.
Anyway, I like to cook and Korean food is kinda all the same to me. Call me unsophisticated. I'm interested in exchanging ideas about food and sources for ingredients. Someone started talking about Mexican food in FAQ's and it got me started.

I very rarely do Korean food. It's just not worth the inevitable argument with the ajuma over me beiing vegetarian.
I do like to cook though, and have tracked down tons of different stuff for recipes. |

Ive found that eating at home is a little more expensive but the normality of making meals that I am familiar with makes me feel more at home in my small little apartment.
I can also get protein requirements to help with the gym and beating that lathargic mood I sometimes get.
Korean food is good but generally its carbo loaded so not an all round balanced meal that you get when you cook meat and veg. |

Yeah, i've gone off ALL Korean pork dishes in a big way - samgyapsal, galbi - blagh, I say, blagh.
I like kimchi but there's no way I'm eatinng the same food everyday. Like, everyday my boss gives me kimbap. I told him that I can't eat the same stuff everyday but of course that just got ignored so I went from thinking that kimbap is okay to hating the stuff.
Anyway, I like cooking meat and potatoes. |

I cook all the time and I can eat Korean food three times a day. I also like variety, but you can stuff your fresh vegetables up your ass.
There's no where for me to vote on your poll. |

Human meat? Your sick! I love kimchi. It's the best. Nothing is better than bosingtang. I could eat that stuff all day and never get tired of it. My other faves are dduk, gimbap, and samgyetang. Corea #1 baby! |

I cook 7 nights a week, all simple, fairly cheap and yummy, it goes as follows. Monday- spag bolag
Teusday- Bacon and spinach Quiche
Wednesday- Sausages, mashed potatoes, honey carrotts and gravy
Thursday-pork schnitzel, usually with potatoe bake
Friday- homemade pizza
Saturday- Salmon fillet, rice, spinach & Fetta cheese dish
Sunday- Roast Dinner
I have a rotating menu as it is easier with 2 kids, also my husband is a chef so get lots of great ideas from him. happy cooking. |

at the moment I'm not cooking. I don't have any hot water to wash up with.
In summer I tend to have my big meal at lunch (school lunch is provided free of charge) and then a sandwich with fruits or something like that. I also like to whip up big batches of stuff and freeze it. |

OP: why do you think there is no variety or fresh vegetables in Korean food?
there are tons of dishes where *fresh* not fermented vegetables are used
I think you need to look around more and try some new dishes
also, although herbs and spices are not as readily available, fresh veggies. seafood and meat are easily accessible and so should not be a problem to cook western dishes you like |

I find the veggies here are piss poor quality though. Stuff goes nasty in my fridge around two days after I buy it. |

Maybe if you plugged your fridge in it would stop happening. |

I cook daily. I probably eat better than anyone in Korea
Today was a stir fry. Beef(filet mignon) sliced thinly, carrots, onions, peppers, garlic, ginger, crushed chili's, black pepper, white pepper, a touch of gochu and hoi sin sauce. Add in a couple packs of oolong noodles and slurp!!!!! MASHISOYO! |

I like to cook, too. I enjoy Korean-style meat, but not most of the vegetables. Except for spaghetti and pizza, I don't eat anything more often than once in two or three months. I should explain that I make a big pot of soup and eat it over several days (that counts as 'once'). |
