Guru's Avatars: May 2004 - June 2005

Without intending or even realising it, I managed to rip through about an avatar a month since registering on Dave's. At least 13 that I can recall and retrieve in the year+ I've been here. May have been a few one-night stands along the way that I've forgotten. Can't seem to find one that holds my interest long term. What that says about me I'm not sure, but I'm guessing it's pretty bad.

Anyway, here they are (or were) in approximate order of appearance.

1. 2. 3. 4.

Some were up for just a few days and I doubt many people even remember seeing them.
#1 is my alter ego.
#2 is what I'll be dreaming about in a few weeks.
#3 is a self-portrait.
#4 is a picture of a large house.

5. 6. 7.

#5 is a pic my secretary gave me.
#6 is from my small stamp collection. That's Park and Bongo. No, I didn't say "Park your Bongo"! President Park Chung-Hee of the Republic of Korea and President Omar Bongo of the Gabonese Republic. (left to right Razz )
#7 was in reaction to DW's endless blathering on about the majesty of Gangnam.

8. 9. 10.

#8 was timed either to annoy during the Aboy-play debacle, or in response to guys sticking K-babes up as avatars. Can't remember which. (She's Japanese, as is clear from her traditional garb.)
#s 9, 10 and 11 were from a sex-clinic website I accidentally (honest) stumbled onto. (Don't even want to guess what's going on in #9.)

11. 12. 13.

#12 was my entry in the baby-avatar parade.
#13 may be the world's largest piggybank.

So, were there any you liked, or were they all uniformly bad? Any give you nightmares? Make you think impure thoughts? What? Huh?

I feel that 3 is the most appropriate one for the this board, I just can't put my finger on why exactly...

And I think I asked before, but what are the chances that #7 is Kangnam-gu around Daechi4dong and Gaepodong? A long shot to be sure since those buildings are so generic, but I just can't shake the feeling... (and yes I realize I'm probably one of a few hundred people who are all thinking of different places and getting that feeling, but I still have to ask).

I'd put up a gallery of mine but I can't remember them all. All I'm really sure is that I average way more than 1 per month in spite of sticking with the penguin gif for almost a year.

Which one was before the penguins avatar? Wasn't there one with a man and an SUV in the snow? Or was that someone else? That's one reason I'd rather not be changing my avatars as frequently as I have: the confusion factor. Some posters I've noticed will change their avatars but maintain the same theme. Mine don't even have a single theme.

Avatar #7? Haven't any idea where that is, or at any rate can't remember, other than it's somewhere in southern Gangnam. The photos might not all be from the same part of Gangnam, so don't strain yourself trying to place it. This avatar serves to remind me that Seoul is like a properly ordered universe. You know -- chocolate, booze & cigs are healthfoods, beef and pork grow on trees or sprout from the ground (making them cheap, plentiful and strictly vegan) and the foods I don't like are all domesticated pets you'd never dream of eating. ("Fluffy" the Cauliflower and little "Urpy" the Bowl of Jjajangmyon.) Anyway, Seoul is properly ordered because the places I wouldn't care to live are the most expensive.

Avatar #3 also happens to be my favourite. It succeeds on several levels, and were I required to stick with one, that would be it.

Avatars #s 5, 10 and 12 drew comments from posters via PM, all very positive.

I wish I'd not made that particular title now, as I'd like others to roll out their avatar collections here as well.

I don't even recall most of my avatars. Had a Harley one for a little while, and the old smoking Megumi avatar.

I like the MONKEY. Monkeys are always cool, except when they throw poo at you.

I like #3 as well. I think you used it for quite a while so it sticks in the memory.

When do we get update pics of that house you were fixing up recently?

New thread title set... That ought to get us some traffic.

Eamo, I've got a whole CD-ROM full of pics of that house remodelling job (done), but I'm not putting them online. It's not a legal ownership/use issue -- just something I was asked not to do, and I agreed. But I might have something to share from an exterior remodelling project later this month. We'll see.

About the avatar, I'm switching back to #3 for a while, as I'm not especially fond of the current one.

The current one's been in place for over a year now, and it's prolly gonna stay. In the past:

Giggles- from a sick online cartoon called Happy Tree Friends
Part of an avatar attack by the women (a timed release of beefcake in protest of bouncing boobies avatars)

and
source of my username.

Can't remember using any other than this one here.

BTW, it's me in uniform pontificating at one of the high tables in 3A.

The eggs get my vote!

My avatar is the boring family coats of arms, but I like red and blue.

I used to have Bush giving Saddam noogies.

My vote is for #10.

Myself, I had the same boring black and white cartoon cat avatar for over a year. Now I'm cycling through different kitty pics every week or so. How about this one of a monkey giving a beat down to a bad bad kitten?

Though a couple posters have said they liked Avatar #10, there was one person -- can't remember who, the thread or even the topic now-- who concluded from my username and avatar (#10 at the time) that I was Korean, and that explained why I was taking the opposing side in some argument. I briefly considered playing him (and the entire board) along, but decided it wasn't a good idea. Neither funny nor helpful.
