However the writer obviously had access to Amnesty's reports and thus probably has a clearer view than you or I for that matter.

But again if certain people can post articles from obscure websites which are heavily biased, don't be surprised if articles are used from other obscure websites which are biased the other way. |
Bias is one thing. Quite another to simply tell lies. Where does he get that stuff about Amnesty wanting world socialism? Very wierd. |
Lies? He did say "apparently" Amnesty wants world socialism. He was simply giving his opinion.
If I say "apparently Amnesty is biased against the U.S." that's a much different thing than saying "Amnesty is biased against the U.S"
One describes an opinion (how it seems to be), the other describes a fact (how it is) or lie (how it is not). |

There is nothing in the article or outside the article that supports anything like sympathy on the part of AI towards socialism. It's a non-sequiteur, not even directly or indirectly related to anything else being said there. Where does he get this?
Thin air, it would appear. |

"He was giving an opinion" An editorial comment to be precise. |

Not quite. An opinion is a view that is backed up with some kind of argument and even a trifling amount of evidence. The opinion part of the piece was the rather feeble attempt to assert that Amnesty is biased exclusively against America - he fell down on that, as we have seen, and he must have suspected he'd done a bad job so he resorted to red-baiting with the offhand remarks about them being Fifth Columnists and espousing socialism.
If he wanted to write an essay and make a case for AI being a bunch of commies, I'd be interested in reading that. He didn't, though. He tossed the word "apparently" out there, and I guess some might think that counts as a qualifier when in fact it is just a lie because nothing of the sort is apparent at all.
Do YOU think Amesty International supports socialism? Why do you think so? |
